GOING TO THE DODGERS GAME TONIGHT. ARE YOU AS DISAPPOINTED AS I AM?

6:02 AM  May 8, 2009

I've been looking forward to tonight's Dodgers game against the San Francisco Giants because I'm taking my sons and my dad. Three generations of Buckley Boys hanging out at the ballpark is a special occasion in our family. It was to be the one game this season all of us were going to be together at Chavez Ravine to see the Dodgers play. Part of our excitement was looking forward to seeing Manny Ramirez on the field. Now, of course, we won't. I'm disappointed about that and I'm disappointed for the thousands of fans who once again have been let down by a professional athlete.

We'll still have fun tonight. I'll still feel pride looking at my sons and my dad sitting side by side at the ballpark. But what a shame about Manny. And what a shame for the thousands of families and fans who were looking forward to one of the next 49 Dodger games with hopes of seeing Manny. For many of them, one of those games was to be the one game of the season they would see in-person at Dodger Stadium. They saved and set aside the money to sit in the stands and enjoy a Dodger Dog. It was to be the one game at which they might hear the crack of the bat as Mighty Manny smacked one out.

The early comments from the Dodgers organization suggest they just don't get it--suggesting Manny has taken responsibility for his actions and is somehow to be applauded. Really? Is that the message fans should take away from this situation? Is that the lesson we should teach our kids when we go to the ballpark this summer and we try to explain why Manny is absent?

Seems to me that Manny is blaming his physician for giving him a medication that he didn't know included a banned substance. Do you buy it? Does an athlete at Manny's level really inject or ingest substances without knowing?

Frank, You disappoint me now. Your taking your family to a Dodger game not a Manny game. He is not the team. It takes 9 good players to get on that field to play. You talk about Manny which we are tired of hearing about. You don't say one word, not one word about any other Dodger players. Do you not know any other players on the team or are they all that bad that you won't talk about them. I don't think they are that bad. So I guess you don't know any other players to talk about them. Teach your kids about all the players and stop idolizing one player. It's a team of 9 players on the field Frank. You need to be talking about those players who are there playing for trhe fans. Not someone who is suspended. Wake up Frank

what are you ding?

hi frank, i love it when u mention 29 palms. i have family that lives there. i used to live there also when i was little. i now live in needles ca. my uncle owns that ramonas mex restaurant. i watch u guys every morning. good to see someone from 29 go far like u.oh yeah i also been to both drive in i think smith ranch is still open last i been there. ktla needs to come to needles, were on the river also.

"Da guy Code" how stupid can one become. To be so insensitive and arrogant to have someone wash year hair for you, who is getting paid a non living wage from the establishment is only surviving on tips and you just say thank you. I would have another word for you but my thank you would begin with an F. I had thought more of you Frank but this shows a real mental disconnect. You've been around Micaela and that weather man tooo long.
As for Mr. 25 mil Manny another Peter Becom (spelling?) what a joke LA is now the place you can sell the Brooklyn Bridge.

As far as Manny goes, we're third generation Dodger fans, and I think my cousin said it best: I think the drugs Manny was taking was for a different bat...

And now for tipping the shampoo girl. We're guys with short hair. Use the "guy code" and say thank you sincerely, that felt great. What's next, tipping the receptionist for making our appointment??

Here's a thought. How about a THIRD League in MLB?

We have AL - American League

We have NL - National League

We add RL - Roid League

Let all the Roid users belong to one league and let them play against each other!

Hey Frank Hows This

Manny: A-Liar

OR

M-LIAR - Wow i used this to get it up.....

Talk about a LIE

12:01 PM February 19, 2009-------------- Or present Day
So Manny has finally come clean about using performance enhancing drugs. Or has he? Manny, after all, is...a liar. It's not something I say lightly. Calling another man a liar is the kind of thing that might result in fisticuffs--especially if the guy you're accusing of being a liar is hyped up on steroids or who knows what? But as A-Liar said himself, he made his own bed...
It turns out Manny lied repeatedly over the years in denying he ever used performance enhancing drugs. It wasn't until Sports Illustrated had the goods on him that he confessed to ESPN's Peter Gammons that he'd been a doper. But even then, he didn't tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
On Tuesday, he had another version of his story when he appeared at a news conference (at which no follow-up questions were permitted). In this version, his "cousin" (now identified by ESPN and other news organizations as Yuri Sucart of Miami, Florida) procured and injected him with a performance enhancing drug he called "boli." What is it? Doping experts aren't sure because they've never heard of it. According to Manny: "I didn't think they were steroids." Really? Then why did you do it in secrecy? Why did you lie about it repeatedly? When pressed on it by a reporter, A-Liar admitted: "I knew we weren't taking Tic Tacs."
How believable is this version of A-Rod's story? Not very, according to someone who knows him. Suzyn Waldman is a Yankees radio broadcaster. As Waldman put it: "Do I believe that Manny, who won't have a Snickers bar or a cookie, let his cousin inject him with something that he didn't know what it was? I find that really hard to believe," she told New York's WCBS radio.
Why does this matter? For one, it's a matter of an uneven playing field that other baseball players have apparently been playing on. The guys who did it right are tainted by the guys like Manny who did it wrong. They're the guys who've been lucky enough to play baseball for a living but who know they'll never make it into the Hall of Fame--guys like 14-year veteran Mike Sweeney, who told the AP: "Fans speculate that all players are doing it. It's unfair to the guys like myself who never did squat--never took a 'greenie,' never cheated, never took growth hormone, steroids, none of that."
A-Liar's behavior also sends the wrong message to kids. Here's a guy who has nine years left on a 10-year, $275 million contract. If Major League Baseball doesn't come down hard on Manny, the message to kids is: Do dope and whatever else you have to do to make the big money. Don't worry about being caught because they'll just slap your wrist. You'll probably even end up in the Hall of Fame.
An Associated Press-GfK poll on that question, by the way, came out today. It showed 52-percent of baseball fans said Rodriguez shouldn't be allowed into the Hall. Only 52-percent? I wish they'd asked me and other dads and moms whose sons and daughters play the game.
What about A-Liar's records? With 553 home runs, there's a pretty good chance the doper will eventually become the home run king when he surpasses the 762 homers hit by another alleged doper, Barry Bonds. In my view, MLB should remove any records achieved by any known doper. But many fans just don't take the records seriously any more. Sixty-two percent of those surveyed said the allegations of steroid use in baseball have caused them to take that view.
So what's next? MLB's investigators are expected to try to talk to Rodriguez about his confessions and about whether his "cousin" ever supplied drugs to other players. For his part, Manny told his teammates he's looking forward to "putting this all behind us and having an amazing season." I'm sure he is. M-Liar claims he'll do something in the future to tell kids that using steroids is wrong. Maybe he will. Expect a non-profit organization to be formed in his name. Expect a few public appearances and media appearances designed to make MANNY look like he's keeping kids off the dirty path he chose.

SO TELL ME FRANK IS THIS HOW YOU STILL FEEL.

OR MAYBE ITS DIFFERNT NOW THAT ITS A BIG LIEING DODGER..........

The sad thing now is listening to all the excusses now thats it not in New York.........................................

Remember your A - Fraud Blog(Frank). Manny has now been put in the list of Steroid takers. I know what I take everyday of my life. Legal or Il legal, I still know whats going in my body. Manny knew toooooooo. Its very simple, at his age and hitting a baseball in the upper bleachers of many staduims or out of the park........... There is only one culprit..............

STERIODS..................................

Read Tim Salmons Interview and you will all see what a class act and a non cheater talks about.

Manny did something wrong. He is facing punishment as a result of it. What about this is difficult to teach to a child? It's something they learn everyday. When you break the rules, you face the consequences, whatever they may be. Yes, children look up to him but they have an entire team who is playing fantastic baseball to look up to. I was hesitant when Manny joined our team and I don't buy his excuse. However, I have seen something awaken in the franchise that I haven't seen in a long time. I am disappointed as a Dodger fan but I know we have a good and solid team with or without him. I look forward to seeing what this season will hold for our Dodgers.

I'm 73 years old and have been a psycho fan of the Dodgers since they moved to Los Angeles in 1958. When I moved to northern Nevada and had to put up with Giant games, I would put on all my Dodger stuff and go to the Giant-Dodger game and get accosted by all the Giant fans. At the time it was all in fun. I'm back in the Los Angeles area now and love going to the Dodger games. I still love the Dodgers and will always support them. What I won't support is cheating. This makes me sad and disappointed.

I'm extremely disappointed in Manny. What is it with these guys... if you do steroids you will get caught. I think the millions he will lose while he can't play should be donated to programs that teach kids the hazards of drugs, alcohol and steroids! Perhaps he should be forced to donate money of his own... who knows!

i was shocked when i found out about what had happen with manny. my 11 year old little girl who likes manny was asking why he did that. i let her know that he (manny) took a drug that baseball dosen't want their players to take. we have been too two games already this season. its going to stop us from going too anymore games this season. But on july22 when we go for manny bubble head night. We are going to cheer him on. GO MANNY...

I have been a Dodger fan since the old Collosium days. My dad took me to the games ,I idolized and imulated my heros when I took to the field in little league. I had to have the number "4" for Duke Snyder. How many kids want the number "99" today? I think the game will survive this and our boy's in blue will prevail. I dont think Manny should be allowed to return to the team. He should be made to return his salary and see what other team want to take this looser on.
In the end it's the message we send to uor kid's that really matters.

Frank,
I've become extremely dissapointed with professional sports over the last decade. No matter the sport, rules are rules! If you break the rules, you must pay the consequences. In the major leagues there is supposed to be a zero tolerance for performance enhancing drugs, as there should be a zero tolerance for being arrested for assault, dog fighting, illegal possession of guns and narcotics. These athletes are placed on pedestals! Their names and images are on billboards, signs, apparel, in the news, and on all forms of media. Why do they not get held to a higher set of standards? Or at least be held accountable for their actions as you or I would?

Personally, I never accept any medications from my doctor without knowing what it is and what it is going to do. I'm sure his doctor knows what is on the list of banned substances for the MLB. If not, he shouldn't have that class of patients!

The Dodger organization should release Manny for breach of contract, and the MLB should ban him for a couple of years. Just as the NFL should do with Vick, Burress, and others. Here is an NFL link you'll find extremely disturbing:
http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/02/08/turd-watch-ii-final-police-blotter/ It lists all the arrests of NFL players for 2008 and part of 2009. Are these the kind of men we want our children to look up too?

FIRE MANNY...THIS A BREACH OF CONTRACT, AND SHOULD BE FIRED. THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY LAME EXCUSESE. FORECLOSE ON MANNYWOOD.

I agree with Bill!!! SHAMEFULL!!!

Frank, I am disappointed too. I recently started a new job and with my first paycheck I decided to take my family to a Dodger game. I picked tonights game. What better way to introduce my kids to the Dodgers than to see them beat the Giants?!
We were all excited to see Manny tonight.
My kids are wearing their Dodger shirts to school today.

This morning I had to talk to them about Manny.
My kids are 8 & 9 yrs old.
I told them it's like he was caught cheating.
They may hear kids at school telling them, it was a bad drug that he took. They watch KTLA with me every morning before school. Of course they are disappointed too.
When they asked "but why did he do that Mom?"
I told them, "sometimes people make stupid choices.
Hopefully he learns his lesson."
We will still have a wonderful time tonight.
Yes, we wanted to see Manny play, more importantly we want to see THE DODGERS .. the WHOLE team.

I was only shocked because everyone knows what they can and cannot take. There is no excuse for this, it's cheating...come on!!

I have to admit, I was not a Manny Band-waggonier when he arrived. I believe that you have to earn the love of a fan. I appreciate what he has done for the organization, but I don't think I will feel the same way in 49 games. As a Mother and a Baseball fan, I am disappointed.

There is no 'I' in 'team'!! The Dodgers have a strong team this year and I Believe they can pull it off and go all the way.
Bleeding Blue, Jennifer

Frank, This is an example of letting yet another "super star" off the hook. By now in this steroid controversy there should be a "no tolerance " policy with a full season suspension if not a complete ban. These guys are way, way, way too spoiled (pampered). The Dodgers should make him sit in the dugout in street clothes for every one of these suspension games. Last year Torre told him to cut his hair and it took a while for him to comply. Now his hair is even longer. These guys are not team players. Goose Gossage said it during an interview on last nights angel broadcast. The "torch" is not being passed any more. Too many players are about themselves and not about the team or the game. Is this just another sign of our society sliding down that slippery slope into a river of sh**? Make people accountable for their actions and this kind of behavior will stop (one way or another)! 25 million a year and then break the rules as if they don't apply to him. DISGUSTING!

The media and fans should be careful prematurely linking Manny to steroid use. Many are likening him to Barry Bonds and Alex Rodgriguez. Those two players took steroids to illegally inhance their performance. However, everyone should consider that those players who have been proven or accused of using steroids have either lied about it or simply not responded. Manny has come out immediately with a plausible explanation. Should he have questioned the medication further? Yes and no. Most of us usually trust our doctors when prescribing medicine; if his doctor truly said the medication would not violate the MLB policy, then this is an innocent mistake. He should not be lumped in with Barry, A-Rod and others who have taken steroids.

The policy is in place to stop players from illegally inhancing their performance. I think MLB, in this instance, is following the letter of the policy, not the intent of the policy. Manny has apologized for letting his team, manager and fans down. He is apologetic because he didn't do his homework with this medication, not because he cheated.

I have to admit I was really surprised to hear the news of Manny Ramirez. After all the big scandals involving steroid use, how dim to you have to be to allow this to happen? Especially such a high profile athlete. Don't they have people that screen that kind of thing? It makes me think he knew what he was doing and did it anyway. I was so disappointed and angry yesterday. I live in Orange and usually feel like the only Dodger fan in a sea of Angel red. The Dodgers are finally looking really good and like they could take it all the way to the World Series. Now they have this black mark against them. It is very frustrating.

Hey Frank, remember the first report was that he took medication similar to Viagra or Cialis. So apperantly during his hold out he was trying to spark up his life at home. So for that I'm not upset. For not talking to MLB (as he didn't have a team since he was unsigend he couldn't talk to a Dodger trainer) I think he is screwed up. That is Manny being Manny so you really never know what you're gonna get and now unfortunately we just found out.

Frank:
Manny is nothing but a cheater along with the others that have tested positive. I believe if they have set any records in baseball, those records should be expunged. What a poor example for the youth of this world! They are being taught that it is ok to take dangerous substances and cheat all in the name of money and big contracts. As a fan I am disgusted. I may boycot all of the games because I do not wish to reward players with my hard earned money. Boston was lucky to get rid of him when they did! He has placed shame on all of us and then to think we are so stupid as to believe that he is a victim, is a further insult as to our intelligence.

Is it 50 days or 50 games? Wendy said days in her report and now I'm confused.

When are the fans of this country going to see professional athletes as what they really are? Entertainers!! We pay to see them entertain us. And since we, in this country only want to see WINNERS, those entertainers sometimes do whatever is necessary to WIN. Forgive them, NO WAY!!!
What are you thinking??? When did it become OK to cheat! How do you explain this cheating to the Buckley Boys? You can't. The day of the "true" athlete is gone forever. I am sooooooo tired of this same story. Swimmers, bicycle riders, football players, baseball players, this list goes on and on. Thank goodness we still have Tiger!!

your right frank. it's not fare to all the fans who pay big money to watch great players, and then they go and do something like this.he new what he was puting in his body, give me a break.I think he should be thrown out of baseball for good.I think any sports players should lose there job for doing any kind of drugs.I would lose my job if i were doing drugs, and i'm not any one speical. frank and all the morning crew have a blessed day.

Manny R knew that he was taking something he should not be taking. He knew that he was injecting steriods into his body, and that it was illegal. There is no excuse for his actions. He did admit to taking them, but without knowledge of what it was. Would you inject or take something without knowing what it is? If somebody came up to you on the streets and told you to take this, it would make you live longer, would you?

This is why I do not watch professional sports as much as I use too. I do not want to spend my hard earned money to watch somebody perform above and beyond their expectation being high on drugs. Hard work and determination is what makes a proffesional athelete be his or her best.

I'm sure we will see alot more come out in the near future. Not only in baseball, but in football, basketball and even tennis.

Frank,
Are we as fans so naive to believe that Manny had no idea what he was doing? He has tested positive for a banned substance that is a common fertility drug among women. I never knew that Manny was trying to get pregnant. There is so much more to the story that we have yet to hear about, and I think we as fans deserve answers. Like you mentioned about, sometimes we only have the opportunity to attend one game a year, and how is it fair that we can pay our athletes so much money when even if he loses 7 million in pay, Manny still doesn't seem to care. He sounded apologetic in his responses yesterday, but what PR firm wrote his apology for him? I think he's only sorry that he got caught. Keep up the good work!

Another MLB icon taking steroids. Its really hard to look at the good players and wonder if they are legit. They obviously have skill, but I wonder how well they would be able to use their skill had they just done it the old fashioned way. You have all these records being broken only to find out that the player did it while being juiced. Why not take the record away from the player and the books and just let the clean players break those records? The Babe and Hank Aaron didn't use to create their achievements. We shouldn't be honoring the other players who did.

I agree with you Frank. An athlete at Manny's level should absolutely be aware of what he is taking. He really shouldn't try to put any blame on the doctor. If he was unsure he should have asked questions. By the way you are a doll.

I agree that Manny is to blame for this and I doubt he's shocked at the results. I think we as fans are jaded and sick of hearing about steroids, so much so that we assume the worst and when this news happens, we're just over it. Manny will be applauded when he comes back, I know he will when I sit in my Mannywood seats in late August.
I think the Dodgers' mistake is backing away from Manny in terms of the being the face of the organization. It may be what they are told "should" be done, but ask the fans, it's not something we want nor will do!

I'm 41 years old and have been a Dodger fan since I was 7. I will follow the Dodgers forever. Sure I'm dissapointed, but not AT Manny. I'm sad that I wont't get to see him play. Our family loves Dodger baseball and go to a lot of games during the season. If you really think about it almost everyone in every career tries to get the upper hand somehow. Athletes look for that extra help to keep themselves in shape and keep making money. I guess what I'm saying It's only cheating if you get caught. example: Martha Stewart

I keep hearing the words "shocked" "surprised" etc about the 50 day suspension. EXCUSE ME - when you break the rules, you pay the price. I am so tired of people who think they can do whatever they want (look at the financial situation we are in as an example) and not have to pay for it? I think he should have gotten fired! What kind of example are these sports figures setting for the kids????
