TWITTER TIME AND THE MYSTERY OFFICE PRIZE

11:59 AM  June 25, 2009

I have reluctantly taken the plunge and created a Twitter account (twitter.com/ktlafbuckley). I did it a week ago and my initial feeling is Facebook (where I'm FJ Buckley) is better, but we'll see. I don't spend a ton of time on Facebook and I doubt I'll spend a ton of time on Twitter, but I do hope it'll help me to stay connected with you and what's on your mind. I'm also hoping it'll help me to keep you informed about the show on a more regular basis.

If you saw me giving away the Mystery Office Prize on the air this morning and wondered what the heck it was about, here's the background. On the Morning News yesterday, the Cyberguy was on with us and suggested that I give a gift to a new "follower" (Don't like that word, by the way. I don't see myself as a follower, do you?). Anyway, I said on the air that I would give a "Mystery Office Gift" (something from my office) to one new follower. Hundreds of folks started following and I decided to pick one of the first to sign up--a MrsLowell as she's known on Twitter. Mrs. Lowell is a teacher who was recently married, according to her Twitter bio. So here's what she won:

* A cheesy signed publicity shot of yours truly (signed to her students)

* A CNN lapel pin

* A green tea packet (I drink green tea during the shows)

* A Peace Corps calendar

* A KTLA keychain

* A book from a onetime Morning News guest (Peter Scott) "There's a Spouse in My House: A Humorous Journey Through the First Years of Marriage"

* A computer mouse with Michaela's picture and my picture embossed on it (provided in a segment by Lawrence Zarian)

We had a little fun with it. Thanks to all of you who are now following my tweets. I better go now because I've got to go write a new one.

"No I did not Call Mr. Buckley a racist!"

Lee also wrote earlier..

"It seems as if Black celebs especially athletes get bad mouth on your show."

Why was it that you had to make reference to skin color? Why not say "some celebs especially athletes" and leave it at that and not mention skin color?.. If not to point out a difference of bad mouthing between black as opposed white celebs & athletes?....

No I did not Call Mr. Buckley a racist! He does have a right just as everyone does to his opinion. He is probably expressing the views of the majority of his viewers. But it concerns and bothers me that news anchors make these broad brush attacks of individuals that they do not know. Yes I am saying he seems to be less sensitive of Black athletes and as typical wants to look at the tip of the iceburg when commenting on events or the cause there of. That does not make him a racist. Example: If the fan does not throw water on Ron Artest the incident in Detroit never happens...Was his response appropriate? No! Was he provoked? Yes! Example 2: Why the concern about Artest joining the Lakers? He's going to come here and blow up the team!! If there was evidence of this happing with other teams this concern would be warranted. have you ever heard of him having issues with teamates or coaches? It's all based on the incident in Detroit. Is Artest a flake sometimes? Yes! But he is a solid NBA player! I could go on and on but you said it Jared he has a right to his opinion but he should stick to reporting the news. If he wants to voice his opinion do a commentary like Hal Fishman or George Putman used to do....Hmmmm

hmmm..

appears that Lee Thornton is calling Frank Buckley a racist...

I don't see it that way...

Frank can have his opinion... His opinion is not damaging anyone else's life, liberty or property...

Because he has an opinion it doesn't mean he is a racist!!!!

Even i've been called a racist and I'm hispanic/native American/anglo and my girlfriend is African American..

If you are not Black you can't say anything negative about Blacks or your a racist..

Did it even occur to your anchor Buckley that Mike Tyson recently loss a daughter. the ear bitting was over a decade ago. Also what has beem so volitile about Ron Artest since the "malice at the Palace". He was not at fault but he was provoked plain and simple! It seems as if Black celebs especially athletes get bad mouth on your show. You self-righteous news anchors act is getting old...! The Boycott KTLA morning news campaign has begun!

Loss Mitigation Services in Santa Ana took my mortgage payment promising a modification but they ran with my money and made me wait for 8 months with false promises.$3500
How can I go after them or how to have authorities stop them from getting more people?

Frank:

Okay, it's time to replace this crazy post with a new blog.

How about blogging about the return of the two journalists from North Korea?

Or how about a blog about the abrupt departure of the chief of police?

I always look forward to your "insightful" blogs, Frank.

Frank:

Where have you been? Since you returned from your vacation, I've only seen you at the anchor desk a couple of times. Frequently, there is some new guy [Jason?} sitting at the anchor desk.

What gives?

Hector,
I don't usually respond to blog posts here because this is a place for you guys to weigh in, but when I'm accused of a racist double-standard, I have to push back. You're missing a huge difference between the cases--Roethlisberger has been ACCUSED of rape. If he did it, throw the book at him. Right now, he's innocent until proven guilty.
Vick is a confessed animal abuser, CONVICTED on federal dog-fighting charges. My point this morning was--in a world full of talented football players, why waste time on Vick? There are so many folks out there who play by the rules, who behave like role models, who aren't felons. NFL teams should consider hiring some of them.

This morning you and Roger were "upset" that Michael Vik is returning to Football and what he did the night before meeting with the NFL Commissioner. I don't think there is anyone who would condone or excuse his behavior. However, I find it very interesting that an obvious and ugly double standard has reared its ugly head in how you, Roger and other media folks are not talking about the rape allegations attributed to Ben Rothlisberger. The NFL immediately said they would not explore or investigate the allegations. Both rape and cruelty to animals are horrific crimes but can you see how this double standard is viewed in the African American community? I am not one to use the race card but can you see the double standard? Can you remember the outrage when Kobe was accused of rape? Why isn't there the same outrage about Rothlisberger? Both are athletes, high profile and rich. The only difference is that one is white and the other is black. You are too good of a journalist to ignore the double standard.
Thanks

Mr. Frank Buckley

The mystery office prize doesn't sound so bad. It's better then the "Mystery Pack" Peg Bundy had in the fridge on Married With Children, with her package you'd be quarantied for six months by the government. As for twitter I have an account for that but never used it, never found it interesting.

Okay, did I miss the "memo"?

Where's Frank Buckley?

Don't get me wrong . . . I love Eric at the anchor desk, but I haven't seen Frank for almost two weeks now.

Is Frank on vacation?

Mr. Webmaster, can you remove these posts as well? Thank you.

Journalist Files Charges against WHO and UN for Bioterrorism and Intent to Commit Mass Murder

(NaturalNews) As the anticipated July release date for Baxter's A/H1N1 flu pandemic vaccine approaches, an Austrian investigative journalist is warning the world that the greatest crime in the history of humanity is underway. Jane Burgermeister has recently filed criminal charges with the FBI against the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations (UN), and several of the highest ranking government and corporate officials concerning bioterrorism and attempts to commit mass murder. She has also prepared an injunction against forced vaccination which is being filed in America. These actions follow her charges filed in April against Baxter AG and Avir Green Hills Biotechnology of Austria for producing contaminated bird flu vaccine, alleging this was a deliberate act to cause and profit from a pandemic.

Welcome to Health Care Slavery..

Why do i need to sign up for health care if i'm healthy and have never needed to use any health insurance my whole life..

Now i will be fined a $1000 because i'm healthy..

Senate bill fines people refusing health coverage

Health overhaul in Senate bill imposes penalty on those refusing affordable medical coverage

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Americans who refuse to buy affordable medical coverage could be hit with fines of more than $1,000 under a health care overhaul bill unveiled Thursday by key Senate Democrats looking to fulfill President Barack Obama's top domestic priority.

The Congressional Budget Office estimated the fines will raise around $36 billion over 10 years. Senate aides said the penalties would be modeled on the approach taken by Massachusetts, which now imposes a fine of about $1,000 a year on individuals who refuse to get coverage. Under the federal legislation, families would pay higher penalties than individuals.

In a revamped health care system envisioned by lawmakers, people would be required to carry health insurance just like motorists must get auto coverage now. The government would provide subsidies for the poor and many middle-class families, but those who still refuse to sign up would face penalties.

Called "shared responsibility payments," the fines would be set at least at half the cost of basic medical coverage, according to the legislation. The goal is to nudge people to sign up for coverage when they are healthy, not wait until they get sick.

In 2008, employer-provided coverage averaged $12,680 a year for a family plan, and $4,704 for individual coverage, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation's annual survey. Senate aides, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said the cost of the federal plan would be lower but declined to provide specifics.

The legislation would exempt certain hardship cases from fines. The fines would be collected through the income tax system.

The new proposals were released as Congress neared the end of a weeklong July 4 break, with lawmakers expected to quickly take up health care legislation when they return to Washington. With deepening divisions along partisan and ideological lines, the complex legislation faces an uncertain future.

Obama wants a bill this year that would provide coverage to the nearly 50 million Americans who lack it and reduce medical costs.

In a statement, Obama welcomed the legislation, saying it "reflects many of the principles I've laid out, such as reforms that will prohibit insurance companies from refusing coverage for people with pre-existing conditions and the concept of insurance exchanges where individuals can find affordable coverage if they lose their jobs, move or get sick."

The Senate Health Education, Labor and Pensions bill also calls for a government-run insurance option to compete with private plans as well as a $750-per-worker annual fee on larger companies that do not offer coverage to employees.

Sens. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., and Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., said in a letter to colleagues that their revised plan would cost dramatically less than an earlier, incomplete proposal, and help show the way toward coverage for 97 percent of all Americans.

In a conference call with reporters, Dodd said the revised bill had brought "historic reform of health care" closer. He said the bill's public option will bring coverage and benefit decisions driven "not by what generates the biggest profits, but by what works best for American families."

The Congressional Budget Office, in an analysis released Thursday evening, put the net cost of the proposal at $597 billion over 10 years, down from $1 trillion two weeks ago. Coverage expansions worth $645 billion would be partly offset by savings of $48 billion, the estimate said.

However, the total cost of legislation will rise considerably once provisions are added to subsidize health insurance for the poor through Medicaid. Those additions, needed to ensure coverage for nearly all U.S. residents, are being handled by a separate panel, the Senate Finance Committee. Bipartisan talks on the Finance panel aim to hold the overall price tag to $1 trillion.

The Health Committee could complete its portion of the bill as soon as next week, and the presence of a government health insurance option virtually assures a party-line vote.

In the Senate, the Finance Committee version of the bill is unlikely to include a government-run insurance option. Bipartisan negotiations are centered on a proposal for a nonprofit insurance cooperative as a competitor to private companies.

Three committees are collaborating in the House on legislation expected to come to a vote by the end of July. That measure is certain to include a government-run insurance option.

At their heart, all the bills would require insurance companies to sell coverage to any applicant, without charging higher premiums for pre-existing medical conditions. The poor and some middle-class families would qualify for government subsidies to help with the cost of coverage. The government's costs would be covered by a combination of higher taxes and cuts in projected Medicare and Medicaid spending.

Helen Thomas: Not Even Nixon Tried to Control the Media Like Obama
Wednesday, July 01, 2009
By Penny Starr and Fred Lucas

(CNSNews.com) - Following a testy exchange during Wednesday’s briefing with White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas told CNSNews.com that not even Richard Nixon tried to control the press the way President Obama is trying to control the press.

“Nixon didn’t try to do that,” Thomas said. “They couldn’t control (the media). They didn’t try.

“What the hell do they think we are, puppets?” Thomas said. “They’re supposed to stay out of our business. They are our public servants. We pay them.”

Thomas said she was especially concerned about the arrangement between the Obama Administration and a writer from the liberal Huffington Post Web site. The writer was invited by the White House to President Obama’s press conference last week on the understanding that he would ask Obama a question about Iran from among questions that had been sent to him by people in Iran.

“When you call the reporter the night before you know damn well what they are going to ask to control you,” Thomas said.

“I’m not saying there has never been managed news before, but this is carried to fare-thee-well--for the town halls, for the press conferences,” she said. “It’s blatant. They don’t give a damn if you know it or not. They ought to be hanging their heads in shame.”

During today’s briefing, Thomas interrupted a back-and-forth between Gibbs and Chip Reid, the White House correspondent for CBS News, when Reid was questioning Gibbs about who was going to decide what questions would be asked of President Obama in a townhall meeting that was scheduled to take place in Annandale, Va., today.

Gibbs then had an exchange involving Reid and Thomas that went as follows:

Gibbs: “… But, again, let's--How about we do this? I promise we will interrupt the AP's tradition of asking the first question. I will let you [Chip Reid] ask me a question tomorrow as to whether you thought the questions at the town hall meeting that the President conducted in Annandale—“

Chip Reid: “I'm perfectly happy to—”

Helen Thomas: “That's not his point. The point is the control--”

Reid: “Exactly.”

Thomas: “We have never had that in the White House. And we have had some, but not-- This White House.”

Gibbs: “Yes, I was going to say, I'll let you amend her question.”

Thomas: “I'm amazed. I'm amazed at you people who call for openness and transparency and—”

Gibbs: “Helen, you haven't even heard the questions.”

Reid: “It doesn't matter. It's the process.”

Thomas: “You have left open—”

Reid: “Even if there's a tough question, it's a question coming from somebody who was invited or was screened, or the question was screened.”

Thomas: “It's shocking. It's really shocking.”

Gibbs: “Chip, let's have this discussion at the conclusion of the town hall meeting. How about that?”

Reid: “Okay.”

Gibbs: “I think—“

Thomas: “No, no, no, we're having it now--”

Gibbs: “Well, I'd be happy to have it now.”

Thomas: “It's a pattern.”

Gibbs: “Which question did you object to at the town hall meeting, Helen?”

Thomas: “It's a pattern. It isn't the question—”

Gibbs: “What's a pattern?”

Thomas: “It's a pattern of controlling the press.”

Gibbs: “How so? Is there any evidence currently going on that I'm controlling the press--poorly, I might add.”

Thomas: “Your formal engagements are pre-packaged.”

Gibbs: “How so?”

Reid: “Well, and controlling the public—”

Thomas: “How so? By calling reporters the night before to tell them they're going to be called on. That is shocking.”

Gibbs: “We had this discussion ad nauseam and—”

Thomas: “Of course you would, because you don't have any answers.”

Gibbs: “Well, because I didn't know you were going to ask a question, Helen.
Go ahead.”

Thomas: “Well, you should have.”

Reporter: Thank you for your support.

Gibbs: “That's good. Have you e-mailed your question today?”

Thomas: “I don't have to e-mail it. I can tell you right now what I want to ask.”

Gibbs: “I don't doubt that at all, Helen. I don't doubt that at all.”

Thomas, 89, has covered the White House during every presidency since John F. Kennedy’s.

Americans to Pay Global Taxes?/UN to Function as Global IRS?

The United Nations is proceeding, with President Obama’s acquiescence, to implement a global plan to create a new international socialist order financed by global taxes on the American people.

The Conference on the World Financial and Economic Crisis and its Impact on Development that begins today will consider adoption of a document calling for “new voluntary and innovative sources of financing initiatives to provide additional stable sources of development finance...” This is U.N.-speak for global taxes. They are anything but “voluntary” for the people forced to pay them.
The most “popular” proposals, which could generate tens of billions of dollars in revenue for global purposes, involve taxes on greenhouse gas emissions and financial transactions such as stock trades.

The document was agreed to at an informal meeting of expert “facilitators” and was made available on June 22 at 3 p.m. It is doubtful that any changes will be made to it.

The conference was postponed from June 1-3 to June 24-26 at the U.N. in New York. While the “outcome document” has been watered down somewhat from the previous version, it still reaffirms attainment of the U.N.’s Millennium Development Goals, which would require the payment

of $845 billion from U.S. taxpayers. A commitment to the MDGs was a stated objective of the Global Poverty Act, which Barack Obama had introduced as a U.S. senator. It requires the U.S. to devote 0.7 percent of Gross National Income to foreign aid.

Now, as President, Obama can bypass the Congress and simply direct his Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice to approve the U.N. conference document Then the pressure will be increased on Congress to come up with the money and satisfy our “international commitments.”

This is the pattern that he followed in regard to more money for the International Monetary Fund (IMF). After agreeing at the G-20 summit to provide more money for the IMF, the Obama White House slipped the cash and credit into the recently passed emergency war funding bill. The Obama White House had added billions in cash, as well as a $100 billion line of credit, for the IMF.

Rep. Mike Pence commented, “This legislation, which includes $108 billion in loan authorizations for a global bailout, for the International Monetary Fund — at a time when this government has run up a $2 trillion annual deficit — I believe does a disservice to taxpayers and to those that defend us. Passing a $108 billion global bailout on the backs of our soldiers is just not right.”

The U.N. conference document explains where all of this is leading — the destruction of the American dollar as the world’s reserve currency and the build-up of global institutions such as the IMF and the U.N.

It declares that “We acknowledge the calls by many states for further study of the feasibility and advisability of a more efficient reserve system, including the possible function of SDRs in any such system and the complementary roles that could be played by various regional arrangements.” SDRs are Special Drawing Rights, a form of international currency that enables global institutions like the International Monetary Fund to provide more foreign aid to the rest of the world. The U.S. pays for SDRs through its financial contributions to the IMF.

If implemented, the document would officially mark the end of the United States as the world’s leading economic power.

Urging socialism as the solution to the crisis, the document states that “Insufficient emphasis on equitable human development has contributed to significant inequalities among countries and peoples. Other weaknesses of a systemic nature also contributed to the unfolding crisis, which has demonstrated the need for more effective government involvement to ensure an appropriate balance between the market and public interest.”

The nerve center of this emerging new international socialist system will be the United Nations, a body that has developed a reputation for corruption and incompetence and whose “peacekeepers” have been implicated in sexual abuse and other human rights violations.

“The United Nations, on the basis of its universal membership and legitimacy, is well positioned to participate in various reform processes aimed at improving and strengthening the effective functioning of the international financial system and architecture,” the document says.

“This United Nations Conference is part of our collective effort towards recovery,” it adds.

The Obama Administration’..s unofficial point man in U.N. deliberations has been economist Joseph Stiglitz, who has been coordinating a “Commission of Experts” that has reported to U.N. General Assembly President Miguel D’Escoto, the notorious Communist Catholic Priest who received the Lenin Peace Prize from the old Soviet Union.

Stiglitz produced his own document which called for “the issuance of additional SDRs,” “additional sources of funding” for global institutions, a new global reserve currency, and a new global credit facility. Key recommendations.. have been incorporated into the official U.N. conference document but Stiglitz and his “experts” provide far more details about them.

In terms of new funding sources, the document calls for “innovative sources of financing such as emission rights trading and financial transactions taxes…” The concept of “emissions trading” enables corporations to avoid limits on greenhouse gas emissions if they pay taxes to government. It is part of the “cap and trade” legislation now being pushed on Capitol Hill.

Chapter Five of this document, “International Financial Innovations,” goes into detail, declaring that “For some time, the difficulty in meeting the UN official assistance target of 0.7 percent of Gross National Income of developed industrial countries as official development assistance, as well as the need for adequate funding for the provision of global and regional public goods (peace building, fighting global health pandemics, combating climate change and sustaining the global environment more generally) has generated proposals on how to guarantee a more reliable and stable source of financing for these objectives.”

The document notes that an international airline ticket tax is now in effect, as a result of the actions of the “Leading Group on Solidarity Levies” that now involves close to 60 countries and major international organizations. This money is going to fight global diseases.

The term “Solidarity Levies” is U.N.-speak for global taxes.

The Stiglitz document explains, “Some of the initiatives that have been proposed encompass ‘solidarity levies’ or, more generally, taxation for global objectives. Some countries have already decreed solidarity levies on airline tickets but there is a larger set of proposals. There have also been suggestions to auction global natural resources — such as ocean fishing rights and pollution emission permits — for global environmental programs.”

It goes on to say, “The suggestion of taxes that could be earmarked for global objectives has a long history. To avert their being perceived as encroachments on participating countries’ fiscal sovereignty, it has been agreed that these taxes should be nationally imposed, but internationally.. coordinated.”

So the nations of the world, including the U.S., will collect the taxes but then turn them over to institutions such as the U.N. The world body will function, in effect, like a global IRS.

Is it too much to ask that our media take some time off from talking about the girl with star tattoos on her face, “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” and Perez Hilton, to examine what is going on at the United Nations?

Chair of Federal Reserve and several others are suspected of committing crimes, who will prosecute?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TTOJEO-71c

Well, here it is folks, a very small example of the major criminal activity of the criminal bankers that are running our country. You heard it right from the Judges mouth, these men have been exposed to have committed a crime, and should be charged and prosecuted for it!

When will people get it? These are the people in control. They have a transnationalist philosophy which they live by, they have no allegience to the United States, only to profits the burden of which is carried on the backs of the American taxpayers. They have shown not only a willingness to ignore and operate outside of the law, but have taken the position that they are above the law telling us to back off or the dollar, and our economy, just might collapse.

We know all of this! WE SEE AND HEAR IT COMING RIGHT FROM THE MOUTHS OF THESE CRIMINALS! AND IN THE WORST ACT OF TREASON OF ALL, OBAMA, AT A TIME WHEN SCANDAL AND CORRUPTION, SECRECY AND SUSPICION SURROUND THE FEDERAL RESERVE, IS MOVING SWIFTLY TO EMPOWER THE FED WITH LEGAL CONTROL OVER OUR ENTIRE FINANCIAL SECTOR AND MARKET, AND TO PROTECT THEM FROM ANY SERIOUS SCRUTINY.

No wonder Geithner is the Secretary of Treasury, he is the former Chair of the Federal Reserve!!

CORRUPTION AND SCANDAL ARE THE WORKS OF THE MOVERS AND SHAKERS RUNNING THIS COUNTRY AND THIS ECONOMY BEHIND THE CURTAIN OF SECRECY.

CONVICT THE CRIMINALS! IT IS TIME TO TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK.

It's time to put criminals behind bars!

I would love to be in charge at KTLA, those would be the first to go. Then the fluff pieces and other time wasters, I would have more hard hitting investagating news, real news such as the waste of tax payers money. I would want people (elected officials and public servants) to get nervous when they get the call that KTLA is coming like they do when 60 minutes does. Then the best for last, personnel changes, a number would be shown the door. I would clean house of the dead wood and those who do not meet the standard I would set for field reporters and on air talent. Gone would be the desk jockeys and "personalities", everyone would rotate for field and special reports. No free rides, everyone will get their hands dirty. The days of cruising because you have a number of years under your belt at the station will be over. You will work for your pay.

Hey, Helen, you gotta cut Ole Man Buckley a bit of slack. He's mandated to report the news PLUS maintain a blog, Facebook page, Twitter page and have a real life.

Frank:

Your blogs are usually thought-provoking; and I always look forward to reading them. This one, however, was such a disappointment! Out of all of the things that you could have blogged . . . this was it? Nothing else on mind . . . really?

Old man Buckley twittering? Disappointment no end. I can't wait till this fad ends like the CB craze of the 1970s.
