I'll miss you at 5 but I'll still see you at 7!

If you've worked in the news business for as many years as I have, you've heard more than one person in a newsroom say: "We're in the communications business but we don't communicate very well." It's true. It's easy to forget that our viewers, our listeners and our readers don't always "get the memo" as it were when big changes come to our television and radio stations, to our websites and to our newspapers. We move people around. People come and go. And you're left wondering: Where is so-and-so? What happened to what's-his-name?
This time, you get the memo. Starting next Monday, I'll no longer be anchoring the 5-7am hours of the KTLA Morning News and a new guy will be in the anchor chair. I was asked to fill in on the 5 and 6am broadcasts on a temporary basis after the departure of our friend Emmett Miller in October. We thought it would last a month or two. It's now March. No doubt some of you got used to seeing my mug as you were getting ready in the mornings. I enjoyed being there for you, "the home viewer" (inside joke to those of you who watch the show) and I'll continue to be there for you between 7 and 10am. I love our team from 430am to 10am and the good news is that team will remain in place.
The new guy is someone you may know from KNBC Channel 4. His name is Chris Schauble. He's a veteran newsman, a dad, and a person we will all get to know well in the months and years ahead. I hope you'll welcome him with open arms to the KTLA Morning News family.

I loved reading everyone's post. There is some truth to many of them, even those of the negative nature. It takes a diverse group of personalities to make a news team work. Love Mark's playfulness, Frank's no nonsense logical honesty, Sam's relentless need to self promote, Gingers professional approach at all times, Gayles go with the flow attitude and dedicated ability to do all the silly things she does and wears to get the story out there...she never says no! Tiny Jessica is such a delight, Henrys giggling personality is addicting even Michelas obvious need to over state/show her personal opinion/dislikes about topics and some guests, they put her there because her "bossy" ability to rein them all in when the little voice in her ear wig tells her to otherwise they would be a mess of a news team like the unprofessional, loud crude and rude FOXLA news. They talk all over each other and too much about themselves like a squabbling guest from springer. I hope none of you that I mentioned before ever leave!

Chris Schauble is an ass kisser and disgrace. Instead of standing with/behind his colleague and keeping his mouth shut (Henry DiCarlo), regardless of what that colleague did, Chris just couldn't help opening his rambling mouth as he always does with a stupid and unwarranted comment. What a great example he set for Megan Henderson, who also should have known better coming from the Cronkite School of Communications. They both should have let it pass, even if it was wrong what Henry did. Leave that for management. "Chrissie" and Megan aren't paid to manage or comment in that situation. News Flash: Hey Chris, we don't care that you believe in your demented mind you're an athletic adonis. You're not. You're only a narcissistic ass kisser to Don Corsini and others because you're insecure and long for acceptance.

Since this is so, the himself as good as active point, as he said it, simply, oneself inverse pushed him off.

They keep forgetting to make ONE change, Mikala. Get rid of that big mouth! Always sharing her oppinion, when nobody cares, she just plain bugs. A GIANT know it all. I have to hand it to Mark for not letting her have it everytime she starts in in him. She needs to be told she is NOT all that!!
Posted by: Chris Sanford | July 13, 2011 at 08:39 AM
Frank, you have been the reason that I have hung in there for this long. I watched you during your trip to Japan and I think you did a really great job over there. I can't tolerate Michela anymore. She is so bossy and sometimes comes off as really rude and Allie McKay is just plain obnoxious. I skip her parts. She drives me nuts. I wish they would give Gayle some better broadcasts. She is truly one of the more interesting ones to listen to. Henry is a good addition. Too bad he was only a temporary spot at the 7-9 am slot. Sam needs to calm down. He acts like one of the foolish fans that you see looking for celebrities. He goes more gaga than anyone I've seen. Miss Kurt. Never heard anything about him. He was interesting and I really like Eric too.
I keep saying I'm going to stop watching KTLA. There are way too many changes and I've been watching for at least 30 years now. STOP ALL THE CHANGES! It really is hard to get interested when you don't know the players. I certainly hope you don't go anywhere and keep doing what you do "for the viewers".

Why has Kurt the Cyber Guy been replaced, and please Frank don't you leave, you lend good stuff to channel 5. I DO NOT LIKE MICHELA, SHE HAS GOTTEN TO BIG FOR HER BRITCHES! And what about Gayle, seems like she is also being pushed out by Allie McKay who is just a BIG IRRITATION! Bring back the Class that was once KTLA News!

It is a pleasure to see Chris Schauble on in the mornings. He and DiCarlo have a great on-air relationship and the male banter just adds to the excellent delivery of the news/weather. I've tried to see a better side of you (Frank), but you continue to come across as a know-it-all jerk. You're rude, and it appears that it gives you pleasure to make negative comments. Before I came to the conclusion that you are a pompous jerk, I did ask an insider friend at KTLA if your superior attitude was scripted. My friend laughed and said "Nope, that's him". Therapy is in order, perhaps? Also, on more than one occasion, I've felt that you have a problem with African Americans or in other words, racist. I'm so happy that you've moved to a later time!!

Frank I can't take it anymore too many changes. Now u gone. Come back. 57 years old so u know been watching for many many year. Is it time to change channels :(.
Posted by: Irene Tapia | April 08, 2011 at 05:59 AM
I am so disappointed, Frank!
I don't know what's going on with KTLA...so many changes!
I still remember when Sharon Tay and Cher Calvin used to be on in the mornings. It won't be the same without you in that time slot. I'm sorry but I don't care for Chris Schauble & his sculpted eyebrows! I did love Henry Di Carlo when he took over the weather for awhile. Oh please no more changes. I hope Eric Spillman and Gayle Anderson and Michaela aren't the next ones to leave!

Frank, YOU ARE GREAT!!!!!
You are the reason I watch KTLA Morning News!
GET RID OF MICHAELA, She NEVER shows you ANY RESPECT. She is TOO BOSSY...
Henry Di Carlo, Megan, Ginger, and the rest of the team are also GREAT!
Bring back KURT the Cyber Guy and Emmet Miller.
A Big welcome to Chris Schauble!

Frank,
Thanks for the update, and for the reports from Japan.
Like many here, the information provided is helpful..; and we'd still like to know what happened to Kurt, Emmet, Carlos, Jennifer... the list goes on. I've been watching the morning news since the morning I woke up in Scottsdale to prepare to drive back, only to find that my (now wife, then gf) was on the phone reporting a 9.0 EQ centered in Hollywood.... etc. I tuned in to CNN and saw the KTLA reports and have been watching since. With breaks, like to drive back from AZ and for meals :p
FWIW, instead of following the spouse's advice that I take surface streets from Phoenix, I came back on the highway, and it worked out fine for me.

Hi Frank,
What happened to Emmet?

Hi Frank,
First, let me tell you what I love about the KTLA Morning News....everything. You guys not only keep me informed, but you make it fun and interesting. Now let me tell you what I hate...when people leave the show and you guys don't even mention it. I miss Kurt and Emmett? Where are they?
Posted by: Delores | March 18, 2011 at 07:59 AM
I love your sense of humor and the way you kid with everyone. So where is Emmett???

I am happy with the anchors of the KTLA Morning News. I think this is the best batch ever (Meghan aside).
Welcome Chris!
Welcome Back Mark!
Posted by: Velvet | March 14, 2011 at 01:51 PM
I'll definitely miss you. Now I only have Henry on in the morning. I am looking forward to Chris but wonder if he can keep Megan quiet. THAT is a disappearance I would love to see. Oh well, Chris and Henry should be good news. If not, I'll go back to KABC again.
Posted by: MarySue | March 13, 2011 at 09:05 AM
Love watching you every morning and the rest of the team. Where did Kurt and Emmett go?
Posted by: Daneta | March 12, 2011 at 09:06 PM
I am so happy to see Chris Schauble coming to your station. Quite watching NBC, when he was gone, came back to KTLA. I like that I can now see Chris and Frank, when the news is on in the morning. Really enjoying the news team!

Frank:
I heard from an insider friend there was going to be a major personnel shake up at KTLA, that some long time people will be gone and new faces will be brought in to match the new demos. Is this the start of it?
Posted by: David | March 12, 2011 at 07:23 AM
NO, first Mark, now YOU! I need to leave my house by 7:00 to be at work on time. My son won't be happy to hear we/he won't be able to watch either of you. You get our morning off to a very pleasant, fun loving day! Maybe I'll have to set my DVR to watch you & Mark ;-)
Posted by: Audrey Smith | March 11, 2011 at 10:13 PM
Frank, I hope it's a good move for you to go over to 7. For me I cant watch that channel, way too many commercial's.
Posted by: steve | March 11, 2011 at 01:48 PM
Frank,
My fiance and I watch you and Micheala every morning while we drink our coffee. Lucky for us we we tune in at 7am so we won't lose our favorite news team. BTW we really enjoy Henry DiCarlo he did a great job with the weather while Mark was gone. We both hope to see more of him.
Posted by: Marlene | March 11, 2011 at 10:57 AM
Frank,
As a "home viewer" I want to thank you for the sacrifices you personaly have made in adjusting your schedule to be on air to deliver us the news. Whichever slot you are asked to fill in, whether it's the 5 a.m., 7 a.m., or the 1 p.m. It is greatly appreciated and an honor for us to be graced by your presence on screen on a daily basis.
Old man Buckley, we the home viewer have been truly spoiled to have had this honor far too long.
Actually that bit you do, when you look directly into the camera and proclaim the hardships you offer us daily is COMEDY!!! Enjoy your new time shift and great job on your coverage of the tragedy in Japan. Hope any relatives and friends you have their their will be o.k.

I've had some changes in my schedule that I haven't been in touch lately with KTLA am news. So sad to hear about your departure. We'll miss you. I did notice that Mark hasn't been on for a while and noticed him today. I hope he's fine..please let him know a little angel is thinking about him and keeping him in my prayer. Good luck to you Frank. God Bless!

Posted by: Javon | March 10, 2011 at 06:08 PM
Okay, just do me a solid and don't EVER move Eric Spillman, okay?
I can't watch after 7am, unless they start allowing TV's on my desk at work, or I upgrade my cell phone..
Posted by: Suzi | March 10, 2011 at 05:40 PM
What is the deal with all the hush, hush about news people leaving KTLA? Does management really think we won't notice when someone is gone? It's insulting to the viewers to not let us know and it's insulting to those who never have a chance to say good bye. Why can't someone be honest and say Kurt the Cyber Guy is not a member of the KTLA news team. Frank I hope you share these comments with your bosses so they can see how we feel.
Posted by: Linda | March 10, 2011 at 03:32 PM
anyone know what happened to kurt the Cyber Guy and where he is now?
Posted by: John J | March 10, 2011 at 12:42 PM
Thank you Frank, As a long time viewer of channel 5 morning news,I would like to know what happens to so many of your morning news reporters- where do they go. It seems KTLA has a habit of getting rid of the good ones and not telling us. Also they sure keep some of the ones alot of us don't care for. Good Luck Frank! Love you!
Posted by: Mare | March 10, 2011 at 09:43 AM
I'd give anything if KTLA would stop that behavior of when they have an employee move on, that they WON'T and DON'T let the viewers know anything about it. They don't allow the talent to say "good-bye" to their fans or their "loyal viewers" that keep the station in the top 2 Morning Show positions. Jennifer York, Bill Smith, Willa Sandmeyer, Emmett Miller and now Kurt the Cyber Guy.
I just get back to watching KTLA in the mornings and then they let MORE talent go without notice to ANYONE. Then they have a "Gag Order" where none of the other employees can say anything!
That's the one thing that is SO frustrating about KTLA...why don't they ever change management who can make that kind of change in their procedures...???

I like Chris Schauble! He was the only main African-American anchor on the all white KNBC. He said he has two sets of twin girls and I have twin nieces, so he's cool with me!
I look forward to seeing him on KTLA. Wonder what he'll be like when he gets to cut up a little. Are he and Henry going to have fights about KCBS v. KNBC? I hope so!
Posted by: Craig B | March 10, 2011 at 07:06 AM
I don't know Chris Schauble, never been much of a KNBC viewer. Besides, I leaving the house at time Chris will be on.
It would have been nice to have had Emmett Miller say "Good bye" to the home viewers who have let him into their homes since he was such a big part of KTLA instead of letting us all wonder.
Anyway thanks Frank for letting us know Emmett is no longer with the station. He will be missed.

Chris Schauble is so lame! He is the whitest black guy ever!
Where is Kurt the Cyberguy?
KTLA is weak! More entertainment than news. I'm sure the comment wont even make it on the Buckley blog.
Posted by: Jonas K | March 09, 2011 at 11:00 PM
I think it was Chris Schauble who used to anchor the 4:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. morning news on Channel 4. One day he disappeared, but he would anchor the weekend news for Channel 4. I used to love his segment on workout tips.
Channel 4's loss is KTLA's gain!

Definitely not a 5 am person, but thankful you're sharing this news since not every departure is always explained--and it is jarring.
Enjoy that extra hour of sleep--it'll definitely be something of which to take advantage in the evenings with the boys' activities.

i met Chris Schauble a long time ago. i believe he has 2 sets of twins. Nice guy look forward to seeing him at 6 30
