ANOTHER Weinergate: What's Wrong With These Guys?

6:01 AM  June 7, 2011

Rep. Anthony Weiner's admission that yes, it was indeed his crotch in the photo and yes, he indeed tweeted that photo to a young woman despite his lies to the contrary is just the latest pathetic admission from an elected official about his secret sex life.

Last week, it was former U.S. Senator and former presidential candidate John Edwards who lied about having an affair with a woman and impregnating her while his wife was dying of cancer. The week before it was former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger who had an affair with his housekeeper and impregnated her. Go back a bit further and we had former president Bill Clinton who had an affair with an intern. And then, it turned out his chief critic,  then House speaker Newt Gingrich, was having his own secret affairs. There was moral crusader and New York Governor Eliot Spitzer who claimed to be a "George Fox" when he was "Client Number 9" when he was using the services and the prostitutes of the "Emperors Club VIP."

And now we have Rep. Weiner--the guy with the unfortunate name who wasn't a very convincing liar when he couldn't confirm or deny that the photo of a guy's crotch was a photo of  his crotch. Ask a Hollywood writer if you could submit a script with a storyline as dumb as this one. You wouldn't get it past a development assistant. I can just see the note to the writer: "Would a powerful congressman really be that stupid? Of course not. Thank you but we'll take a pass on this one."

What's wrong with these guys?

Look, the truth is I'm not a prude and I'm not judgmental about people when it comes to matters of the heart. People--even elected officials--have a right to a private life. The problem though is when their weird private lives become public through scandal. That's when they begin to lie. And if they're such good liars about their private lives, one begins to wonder what else they're lying about.

Even worse, is the distraction that comes with the scandal. How many hours of cable news and how many inches of the nation's newspapers will now be spent talking about something as stupid and embarrassing as Anthony Weiner's crotch?  People wonder why nothing gets done in Washington and Sacramento? Sounds like there's actually alot of action going on behind closed doors. But we want action on unemployment, budgets, school funding, health care policy and a million other issues. We have so many problems in this country that need the attention of serious lawmakers who want to make a difference. Those folks still exist, right?

Anthony Weiner is the most apthetic old geezer I've ever seen in my whole life, hahaha

Just because a person is in the public eye it doesn't mean that they are no longer human beings. Human beings with human emotions and problems. I'm not making excuses for Weiner but he know's what he did was wrong and he knew he was in trouble. I suppose you are the perfect man, with no skeletons? I doubt it!
What we don't know is what a person may have experienced in life to create the problems that would make them behave this way.
As far as the media spending too much time on the Weiner topic, you as journalist write a blog on the topic? Come on now!
Finally, I don't know why you don't recognize that you are VERY judgemental! You wrote "What's wrong with these guys?"; you don't think that's being judgemental?? On the morning news you CONSTANTLY interject your personal feelings when it's unnecessary and inappropriate. You also like to throw in a little racism far more often than I like.
You might want to think about removing the word "stupid" from your vocabulary.

A little bitter are we Norman?

What's wrong with these guys? Is that men are different then women. A lot of "wifes" are insufficient in taken care of there Husbands. They cannot keep up with there Husbands sex drive, or wifes try to control there Husbands with sex or not. This problem will continue to be an issue until we face the truth. Most of the time when you find men that "cheat", if you look very close at the wife you will find the real problem that always get away and is never held accountable for the neglect of there Husband! A lot of "wives" try to look like innocent angels, but are truly devlish and mean sprited, this works for women in general. For those women that like seeing a man going out somewhere else to satisfy themselves and get "caught", then he is the bad person, I disagree in most cases. Always check-out the relationship with the wife when a husband is so
called "cheating".

I think if the media digs deep enough, they will find the Republicans are behind this. Weinger could have been set up since his wife is an aid to Hillary Clinton, and as such it's a attack on President Obama.

Got to love the Clinton connection. Slick Willy officiated over Weiner's wedding:

It was doomed from the beginning...

The real funny part is that this nonsense happens on both sides of the spectrum. But, if he was a Republican that would be his first name. However, since he is a Democrat, often times in the news he's cited as "Congressman." Typical double-standard. It is wrong no matter what initial is before his name "D", "R", or "I." Oh well, At least it took some of the spot light off of Arnie, who replaced Charlie, and who care's who it will be next week...

Interesting how this topic goes from the subject of an elected official emailing photos of his crotch to attacking Gays by so called Christians. Let's not forget the sex scandals with high ranking members within the religious community.

But back to the subject of this blog. This is not about which party you belong to. They all have had there far share of this type of scandal. And most likely will continue. Only now in this new media age it will be harder to hide. Maybe that will make our elected officials think with their big heads before letting the little ones take over and get to work on the real job at hand of fixing the problems of this country.

I think this is what is wrong with America. Our elected officials in Congress have way too much time on their hands.

It's beyond insane what is happening right now in America and around the world: Unemployment, recession, Wall Street, wars, global disasters just to name a few.

And our elected officials are literally screwing around while people are being foreclosed on, families are scared and hopeless as to where their next paycheck and meal will come from.

Seriously, the only conclusion is that there is a serious disconnect between the American people and its elected representatives.
Wall Street gets big money while Main Street gets screwed.

Why aren't people more angry about this??

LET'S forget Arnold and stick to the topic on hand.

This is about Congressman Weiner. There ought to be enough right there for everyone to whine & wring their hands over without bringing up anything else. If not, let's not forget Strom Thurmond, Warren Harding, Judge Clarence Thomas, Mark Foley, and a hundred other people over the last few centuries. Heck, while we're at it, let's go all the way back to Thomas Jefferson & his slave mistress.

It's equally ridiculous to compare this to anything regarding gay rights, Biblical teachings, and anything else that the Westboro Baptist Church, i.e. the "God Hates Fags" group might be rallying about.

Stick to Congressman Weiner & his screw ups for this week--it's his fifteen minutes. Everything else is irrelevant as well as really annoying. (Besides, we did the Arnold thing last week. It's gettin' old & I'm seriously tired of hearing about it now, just like I'm sure I'll be sick of this by next week...) Although, I must admit, I do get a jolly out of saying "Weinergate"...it's even more fun than saying "Watergate". ;)

I don't know why people are pretending that this matters. Weiner is a Democrat, so is not subject to any kind of standards. In a couple of days, this will be ignored again.

@kathleen Allen Pratt- you are off the topic, we are not talking about a gay man who is cheating. At this point the men that have been cheating on their wives have been heterosexual. Your attack on gays and lesbians are uncalled for. Your belief that they are damn is your opinion and as a good human being and christian you should still respect and forgive all human beings and allow your god to judge them (if that is the case).

Women also need to step up. Men are cheating but these women know that these men in office are married and are participants in these activities. Monica, Arnold's maid, John Edwards' mistress and so forth. As much these men are at fault, the women involvement needs to be accounted for as well. These women could have and should have said, NO, you are married. I am not excusing these guys and they should be removed from office. Once again, we are dealing with grown adults that we hope have more integrity and can make the right choices not with teenagers. Once these guys start losing elections and being indicted for their actions the rest will start to change their activities. By the way, i am in no way saying that men dont think of sex and are not driven by it. But, if you choose to be an elected official one of the liabilities is to not engage in sexual activity that compromises one's integrity.

Learn to spell. It's "Weinergate" not "Weingergate." His name is not "Weinger."

He's gone!! This kind of behavior has got to STOP!!
Do not allow HIM or any other elected official get away with it and make it the "water-cooler" laugh of the day. The world has enough "garbage" to deal with, let alone poison the minds of young children thinking this behavior is O.K.

I am tired of all the sex and sexual implications that is on the television constantly. It is offensive to see and hear this stuff all the time and this material definitely is not good (or fit) for our children to see and hear! It is no wonder that our kids have no idea of what is and is not appropriate.

We, the people, are more inclined to look at and enjoy this type of comic, and drama. We are sick. We have completely gone away from Biblical teaching. Gays, lesbians, transgenders, and the exhibitionists are damned and will die in hell-fire. We should not support them in any way, marriage or otherwise. They are an abomination. By our support we are damning ourselves and our nation.

I think its a diversion from the real issues facing America.

1. Everyone lies.
2. Men are driven by their sex drives.
3. Powerful men believe they are invincible.
4. Men in stressful jobs seek outlets for their stress.
5. Some outlets are inappropriate for everyone, not just politicians.
6. Weiner's offense was lying when caught. See #1.

don't forget to include Arnold on this topic. hmm, as elected officials these individuals should be held to higher standards. These individuals choose this career and the responsibility to represent their constituents. When individuals choose that path, they need to realize that their private life is going to be scrutinize and to some extent lose the right of a private life. In addition, we are hoping that the people we elect to office have integrity in their beliefs, actions and ideology. Integrity is tested and proven when no one is watching. We hope that the people we elect to create and pass legislation not to mention work on the US budget do the right thing even when cameras are not watching them. The more that men in power position keep having sexual scandals the more it will become "normal" and expected... examples need to be made, these guys should be fired for their actions and not allowed to run for office again (NEWT). lastly, what Weiner did was not really from the heart, basically just a horny guy and perhaps has a sexual disorder. If it is a disorder then he needs treatment but I would still not want him making decisions, because if it is a disorder then his mind is occupied with sexual fantasies...he is a grown adult and should be able to control this, we are not talking about a teenager.

On that note, he should NOT resign. Chris Lee should not have resigned either. If all members of Congress resigned over issues like this, nobody would be left other than Ron Paul, and now I'm having my doubts about him too, lol.

They're all doing it, they are just selective in who they "out".

This was timed in order to diminish any ability for him to get re-elected. Conversation needs to take place as to how this issue is the elephant in the living room, everyone is doing it, nobody is talking about it. It's the big secret everyone knows.

Idle minds are the Devil's workshop. Apparently he is not paying attention to the business at hand of saving the economy. He needs to resign.
