How To Transfer Old Audio Cassettes To MP3 Files

7:03 PM  May 21, 2012

We all have old cassette tapes in the garage or attic that you haven't heard in years. Most of those music tapes are available for download. Audio tapes will never sound better than a brand new digital file you can buy from iTunes... BUT some of those tapes are not available anywhere. That's why you have to transfer those tapes now or loose them forever. Here's a step-by-step guide that will get your cassettes onto your ipod.

1) Download Audacity. Install the FREE AUDIO PROGRAM and install it's MP3 Plug-In

2) Get a 3.5mm Stereo Audio Cable (The kind a set of headphones use)

3) Plug one end into the microphone input on your computer

4) Plug the other end into any cassette player. Dig one up or buy a cheap one.

5) Make sure you select the right audio input & click the red record button to start recording.

6) Start playing your cassette tape from the cassette player.

7) Select File>Export Use the drop-down menu to make & save an mp3 file.

8) Open Itunes. Drag & Drop the new file into the music section of itunes.

9) Inside Itunes, Right click on the file. Select "Get Info" to type in details & cover art.

Synch your ipod. That's it. Your old cassettes are saved as digital files that will last for years to come.
