It's been a while, but I am committed to getting back online with you all! So we have a lot to talk about, especially since I was working with the queen of all media, Miss Oprah Winfrey herself! Wow, what an amazing experience that was...soo much happened and happening! So, what do you want to know? Hmmm I can take some guesses, but want to hear from you first?? :)

"Early Call"!!!

Folks I am back on the KTLA Morning Show...feels good although my body may not always think so ;)... you see I have to change my entire sleep schedule! So, instead of going to bed at midnight, I now have to wake up at about that hour! Yep....this schedule is no joke! I look at my morning show colleagues, Eric Spillman, in particular who has been reporting on the am show for YEARS!!! The dude is a rockstar in my book! :) And no he didn't pay me to say that, although come think of it, I wouldn't mind some extra cash, hee-hee.

So, the challenge will be to age gracefully on a routine meant for robots! I know about preparation H for those nasty dark circles under the eyes...
does anybody have any other anti-aging suggestions?? :)
I sure love those home remedies... au natural is the way to go!

POLITICS! OK, SO NOW THAT A LOT OF THE SMOKE HAS CLEARED, AND SOME OF THE HARD FACTS ARE IN…HOW DO YOU REALLY FEEL ABOUT OUR VOTING PROCESS? OR MORE SPECIFIC, IS THE GAME ALL ABOUT THE MONEY ? DID YOU HEAR? MEG WHITMAN SPENT $$$71 MILLION BUCKAROOS!! STEVE POIZNER SPENT $$$25 MILLION BUCKAROOS! AH YEAH! AND KEEP IN MIND THEY ARE VYING FOR A JOB THAT WILL ONLY PAY THEM PROBABLY ABOUT 150K!! HMMM, MUST BE THE INFLUENCE, THE STATUS, THE POWER OF POLITICAL OFFICE THAT DRAWS THESE PEOPLE TO THE GIG, YA THINK?? WELL, THE WORD ON THE STREET IS THAT BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THEY MAKE THAT MONEY BACK…

SO HERE’S MY QUESTION, IS IT REALLY A FAIR PROCESS WHEN ONE CANDIDATE CAN OUTSPEND THE OTHER?? ON THE FLIPSIDE, IS IT NOT FAIR TO PRECLUDE THESE PEOPLE FROM USING THEIR FORTUNES FOR PERSONAL GAIN?? WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST WAY TO ACHIEVE A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD WHERE VOTERS ARE SWAYED BY THE ISSUES…NOT SWAYED BY THE ONSLAUGHT OF AIRTIME ONE CANDIDATE CAN PULL OFF BECAUSE OF HIS OR HER DEEP POCKETS?? Skateboarding is one of the hottest sports amongst our young people!  It's certainly becoming more and more contagious out there! On Saturday May 29, 2010 I had a chance to spend some time with two of the world's finest pro skateboarders Ryan Scheckler and Rob Dyrdek at the Etnies skate park in Lake Forest. The "Make-A-Wish Foundation" was there with two very special kids for a wish granting inside the private Etnies training facility where only the pros practice their special tricks!

First, I had a chance to speak with Ryan Sheckler about this great opportunity to give back through his own foundation and to meet with a boy who just wanted to meet this skate pro! Here's a peak at our conversation which as you'll see, Ryan, did a great job multi-tasking through our interview check it out...

I also had the honor of meeting Marissa, or "Missie" Garcia, a 14 year old girl from Riverside who is also quite fierce while riding a skateboard! :)  This little "Missie" was diagnosed with Leukemia and FORTUNATELY (big hooray here!) has been in remission for almost two years now!!! She may be shy, but as you're about to see she has no reservations when it comes to skating and is a very beautiful girl!! Her wish was to meet the very popular Rob Dyrdek, yes that dude from the "Fantasy Factory"...and boy oh boy did we have a blast spending time with Rob!

Ok so I went to Santa Barbara to help a friend pick out her wedding dress this weekend! Yes it was a very exciting feat, but wowsers, wedding gowns are pricey!! You only wear it once, but I can understand the desire to have a beautiful poofy gown to strut down the aisle!!!! For the record my girlfriend does not want a " big dress " ... Unless I get my way, hee hee j/k. So the question is how much do you think is reasonableto spend on your wedding gown??? Talk to you soon!!

CHEATING HUSBANDS!

Ok really ladies, I said it once and I’ll say it again!! If a man will cheat on Halle Berry and now on Sandra Bullock, things aren’t looking too good for us eh! Well, maybe not, but seriously this blog is meant to rattle these boys, because MEN they are NOT!! If these boys need to look outside their marriage for excitement, then do it, but first tell your wife and agree to a divorce! Man up already! Seriously, its not my business what Bullock and her husband do, nor what any and all other cheating couples do, but it’s disgusting to see these men rip these women up. Recently, we’ve all heard the countless reports on the Tiger Woods sex scandal which appears to resurface every time we turn around. He and that other guy at ESPN who had an affair with an intern allegedly suffer from a “sex addiction”. Really?? Have these guys read any of their history books lately? Sex has been very popular for a very long time!!! What makes them think suddenly loving sex is an addiction? Listen, I am the first to admit I am NOT a psychologist, psychiatrist, psychotherapist, or psycho of any other nature (hee hee) but I will say common sense is common sense.

So I ask thee the following: Do cheating men use the “sex addiction” diagnosis as an excuse, or is it truly a medical condition like cancer???

Also, there has been a lot of chatter regarding Sandra Bullock outshining her husband …which some therapists argue is the reason why he cheated? Do you think men can’t be with a woman who is more successful than they are?? If so, why not?

I am always amazed at how much people from all walks of life inquire about my life as a news reporter in Los Angeles...

I often feel that most of the time, the minute forty five segment that makes air along with my liveshot does not represent even "half the story" I experience out there...

I can relate with others who see what I do and think its all fabulous, all the time, so you want to know "how?", "where?", "what?" because on the outside it appears to be such...but really, allow me to remind thee, it is not always a bed of roses in tv news...

Having said that, I love what I do, I love people, I am soo fascinated by human behavior, human emotions, and how it all comes together as each and every one of us pushes through our daily grind...you can learn soo much from strangers, I feel blessed to have that opportunity.

Therefore, today I am starting a new theme here...I will call it: "Behind the Scenes"...I want you to experience and discuss the daily characters and issues I encounter everyday that are truly enlightening!

So today,  I had dinner with a city prosecutor who shall remain nameless...and let me say this, this person is a character!! We shall refer to this individual as "this person"...a very fascinating individual, I mean this  person could have easily chosen a career in stand up comedy and would have made a killing!  No pun intended of course :)  But hear me out, this person is soo right, he/she says part of the key to success in trial work is number one: knowing how to study people!  With that knowledge, this person mastered the art of selecting the right jurors, and when to attack the defendant on the stand or not.  And get this, I'm told, defendants usually love this person, yep, even as they are whisked away to the slammer after a long trial.  Who knew??

Well, now I want to let you in on this intriguing discussion we had on the "war on drugs" in the US.  This person, a DA,  made it clear the established "formula" to fight drugs is a total failure.  This person says, look, probably every DA in the nation will tell you THEY have the solution, but this person insists, that is NOT the case, just look at our prisons! This person sure surprised me when the well groomed, high dollar suit blurted out "why not legalize marijuana!"!  Yes, folks this person said it...the point made was "does marijuana cause people to get violent, it might just mean more people will walk around with a big smile on their face?" Yes, very controversial remarks, but I can tell you this, this person spoke in a moment of total self authenticity without any filters at work...a very unusual ocurrence for DA's, if I may say, especially around a reporter.

(heck, I'm glad they are comfortable to be themselves around me, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I'm just here to listen)

So, lets talk about this...does this individual who has created a career putting drug offenders behind bars have a point? What do you think??? Remember, its a conversation, so its ok for all writers to "agree to disagree". That my friends, is what some folks call problem solving... so say it, what do you think???

You're probably asking who is Teri? Well, many of you may already know I am very passionate about issues surrounding the special needs community.  In fact, many of you may also already know the reason for it is because of my brother.  You see my little brother suffered brain damage due to lack of oxygen at the time of birth.  I know firsthand how challenging it is to navigate through life while looking after a severely disabled loved  one.  For those of you who walk in these shoes, you know exactly what I’m talking about...and for those who don’t, please know the special needs community cannot thank you enough for showing us compassion and understanding!  It’s a tough road, but as my mother reminds me “what doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger”.  So with that mantra in mind, I have taken it upon myself to create as much awareness as possible of services, places, and people that make a difference for the disabled.

Teri is not a hot chick, although the founder is a beautiful woman... Teri Inc. is a home and school for people with intellectual and or physical disabilities.  Not only do they service some of the most behaviorally challenged special needs folks in different day programs, but there is a residential component and most exciting....the construction of the “Charles Cono Center for Research and Life Planning Campus”....the campus will sit on 20 acres!

Teri is located in Oceanside, and the Campus mentioned above will be in San Marcos which will include a 23,000-square-foot recreation and aquatic center. Can you imagine? A village for people with disabilities to play, shop, and eat...to feel comfortable, understood, in a familiar setting where everyone knows and will expect to be around the special needs population!  I'm excited because it will also provide opportunities to employ people with disabilities.  Of course, this will require a substantial amount of money to complete.  I am told $42 million is needed to complete the project. So, TERI has launched a $500 buy-a-brick campaign to raise funds. 

Can you help spread the word? In a country where some folks will spend millions on a home they only see in the summer, I am optimistic centers/schools with a vision to help the disabled will not be overlooked and a helping hand will step in. :)
