The Dog Ate My Blog
5:08 AM April 3, 2008
This may be the briefest blog ever; and that does not indicate a lack of trying to be dutiful and taking this special opportunity to communicate with all of you in a serious way…..it’s just…it’s just I have had some issues this week.
1. I had to get a new set of tires unexpectedly on Monday
2. My six year old daughter has a “big report due” about Oceans on Thursday and we didn’t get ‘the right sand’ for her diorama.
3. I have friends visiting from out of town this week.
4. Given the choice between reading this really great column in the New York Times on Wednesday night about how the upcoming economic apocalypse may actually make us fatter; or writing my own blog….I read the article.
Speaking of quick “reads”…..another web site I think is great is called “L.A. Observed”….I believe it can be found at www.laobserved.com
Anyway, the site spends a lot of time talking about KTLA and the Tribune Company’s new owner Sam Zell and several new hires. One of them, a guy named; well, I forgot his name; he is in charge of ‘Strategic Thinking,’ and he sends out memos; tons of them with his wild ‘pie in the sky’ ideas about newspapers and television. His biggest gripe about TV so far; that the sound is bad. That all of TV sounds the same. As the kids would say; "whatever."
I will only let blog readers in on this; on Tuesday I am going to “quit” KTLA and then pretend to have Ryan Seacrest hire me. Wait, I already did that. Must run, seriously though, we have a great gag for today; Thursday at . Be sure to Tivo if you aren’t home.
Thanks for watching and for reading and for your active participation in the on-line community here. I am off next week; and thus have two full weeks to prepare an amazing blog; which I won’t compose a minute and a half before it is due.

I thought you said you were doing something special at 7:35. I turned my television from GDLA so that you could enlighten me at 7:35 and you didn't do or say anything special. Was it the Jessica skit that was suppose to be enlightening? Oh well back to GDLA.

Sam, yesterday you said that you have a huge announcement on the 14th when you get back...If it's to hopefully tell us the 9 am hour is going back to the old format....don't wait until the 14th my friend. Do you realize how many more viewers you can lose in a week and a half? ANNOUNCE IT NOW! There may not be any viewers left to hear your "huge announcement" on the 14th! Just my opinion!
Posted by: Dan | April 03, 2008 at 08:09 AM
Oops! Forgot to reiterate what LaToya said about the "bit" at 7:35. It just keeps getting worse over there. You guys are on a sinking ship! Again, just my opinion!

Well Dan, I'm sorry you had better go ahead and change your channel now because the 9:00 format is not going to change. In a week and a half it's going to be a month. As you can see from logging into KTLA they have now actually put a link to watch the "9:00 Stinker" online. Sorry buddy we lose, or maybe we should look at it as winning. Instead of watching what we have been watching for decades, we now have the opportunity to embrace mind stimulating viewing elsewhere.

You know what's really a shame. Here they are doing a charity bit by wearing kilts and the main part of it is supposedly taking place at 9 am! Just think how much more successful it would be if they hadn't changed their 9 am format, if they hadn't more or less "flipped off" the viewers with their "get over it" attitude. Just think how generous your LOYAL viewers would have been! I hope that this ignoring us, keeping this train wreck at 9 am is worth it. You could have made this event a huge success. So much more than I think it will be. I won't be watching at 9 am - I don't care who you're doing it for!

Sam,
First, I LOVE the Morning Show. I've been watching it since Year 1.
The blog is great, but please stop using so many semi-colons, especially since you're using them incorrectly. It's driving me nuts.
And no, I'm not an English teacher.
Really, though - I love the show; I always have. [That would be a correct usage of a semi-colon.]

Sam this was short, quick and to the point, Wonderful actually. Thanks for taking time out to let the viewers know what's going on with you. You will be greatly missed next week. Have a wonderful vacation and don't forget to get up in the morning and ask the mirror who is the most handsom in the world and wait on the mirror to say it is you, Mark my prince, it is you:)

Sam, I could have sworn you were just on vacation…but oh well, you deserve the best!! Enjoy the time with your family.
I’m sorry I missed the whole 745am thing. I had to leave this morning to get everyone off to school/work, (down to 1 car…grrrrr). I was back by 9a but as much as I love you ALL, I just can’t stand the new format…no matter what the cause.
Thanks for letting us know ahead of time. I would hate to sit and wonder what happened to you…LIKE with Bill Smith?!?!?! Where is he?!?!?!

Thank you for the laughs Sam, if I watched television I certainly wouldn't miss your telecast.
I have to hand it to Kevin Roderick, for keeping Tribune Employees like you and I, informed on the status of our company.

Hi Sam,
Glad you mention you were going on vacation, after the April fools joke, you would have everyone worried.
If your big announcement is the that the 9:00 is being put back the way it was, please don't wait.
I think your announcement is that your getting married????

I'm one who actually doesn't like your skits. I thought they were really funny at first but now it's like watching a comedy movie over and over again. But I do like you. You're a good guy. I hope you and your family enjoy your vacation. Unless you are trying to pull another April Fool's joke on us. You only get to do it on the first!

Sam, kilt or no kilt, still do not watch the 9:00AM hour. Seems like GDLA has picked up what your management dumped.

Have a GREAT vacation, Sam. We'll miss you.

Yes, I do enjoy the KTLA Morning Show and the genuine personalities. Of course, I recognize myself with you Sam. A married guy with two young daughters. I worry about the girls science projects, relatives and friends, window latches? (level or not - Hee Hee!) and the everyday stresses and joys.
I really appreciate your entertainment segments in a realistic portrayal and wit, not a flash-in-the-pan sensationalism.
I know it can be very difficult to get personal but these blogs are...um... building a relationship with the public and make the news not just reported by mouthpieces but by real folks who have intelligent opinions - and end up saying sometimes what I was thinking!
Changes... my grandmother was lost without George Putnam. We should of sent peanuts or something???
And... your blog about talent - well, you must be doing something right. Keep on keepin´ on.
