The Power Of The Viewer
6:53 PM May 23, 2008
I have been off for a couple of days but will be back on Monday Morning May 26. At this point Sam Rubin and I are back for The Water Cooler, or better known title "Hot Topics" section of the 9 AM show. The stools and bar tables are gone and so is Richie the news director. He has been promoted to News Director in San Diego. YOU spoke and KTLA listened.
PS: There are more changes coming, not just the 9 AM.

Mark - You da Man! We've missed you Mark - big time.
They still need to make a few more changes as far as me coming back at 9 but THANK YOU MARK - for saying; "YOU spoke and KTLA listened".
That is so awesome to hear it said by the TALENT! Have a great and safe weekend with your family Mark!

Mark,
It great that KTLA has finally taken the time to listen to the viewers. It also helps that the brick wall known as Mr. Goldner is history. To go from one the three major markets like Los Angeles to San Diego is not what I would call a promotion. But whatever as long as he's gone. And yes, changes do still need to be made. For one, you and Sam need to be part of the whole 9:00 show, not just the "Hot Topics" segment. But it looks like KTLA is off to a good start. Have a great weekend.

I hope the changes before the 9:00 hour won't be for the worse. As far as calling the 9:00 hour "Water Cooler Buzz" or "Hot Topics" really depends whether the topic is actually an important one. If it's a good one call it "Hot Topics" but if not, call it "Water Pipe Buzz." That way maybe you'll at least attract the potheads.

Mark if the new bosses at KTLA want to make changes they can start with some on air talent. Less of Michaela would be a start. I'm sick of her diva attitude, that she bosses everyone around especially the men. And Jessica is another. I'm at the point, I can't stand the sound of her voice anymore. Aunt Gayle is a jewel. And I love her "What you see is what you get" attitude. And I respect her opinion as well. I like Cher and Kim, both do a very good job. I miss Lu Parker on the morning shows. As for the guys, you're all great. Eric with his fist shaking, Frank, with his Old Man perspective, Bill and his whimsy look at things, he reminds me of the late Ralph Story and Mark, you say it as it is man and I really like that. So you ruffle a few feathers. Sometimes that needs to be done.

I think Mean Tristan nailed it on the talent! After Michaela said what she did during the problems that occurred with the 9am show, I have very little respect for her anymore. The diva thing doesn't work for me, and I'm sure it doesn't work for a lot of the viewers.

MARK, YOU'RE THE BEST PART OF THE PROGRAM FROM 6:00 AM TO 10:00! Frank runs a close second. Hope you had a good vacation and glad to have you back.

This is great news but let's hope it is not "too little, too late". I stopped watching the 9am hour when the change happened and I am sure there were a lot more that followed. Let's hope more of the previous viewers just happen to come across this blog and will try to tune in again.
Welcome Back!!!

For me the changes are not coming fast enough, or a big enough of a change! To TPTB; You are about to lose this viewer for good. I've tried being patient, I've tried giving you the benefit of the doubt, I've tried offering my opinion that seems to run 97% along with all the others commenting on these blogs, and yet, it STILL FALLS ON DEAF EARS!
We ask for KTLA's ratings and we get Sam talking about the drop in Oprah's ratings! Helloooooooo, who gives a flying rat's behind about Oprah's ratings? We've asked for YOUR ratings - and we still don't get them!
I'm sorry "Too little, TOO LATE" sums it up for me also!

Sean,
My guess is they are not making any major changes till June. The new ND should be in by then. And this guys history is all about changes.
As for the ratings. Don't hold your breath. They will only give ratings if they are good. It will take another station like FOX to give out those. Maybe Carlos can be of help there.
The best we can do now is keep sending in emails with what we would like to see and keep posting here. It got Mr. "Grow a Set" Goldner the boot and Mark and Sam back. We just have to keep hitting them. Don't give up my friend.

I think they should let go Jessica. She is so figity, always picking at her hands. She just can't sit still and I can't handle watching her anymore!

I have now given the 9 AM show another try. Boy have I lost another hour of my life I will never get back! You guys haven't changed! All you've done is moved the 3 women behind the desk. Sure you've put Sam and Mark in but you 3 women don't give them a chance to speak hardly at all. You all are still talking excessively over each other! And you're still calling it the "water cooler buzz"!
You people just don't get it.
I'm joining the others that said they're out of here until you notify us that you've totally gone back to the old format. If I could sue you for those lost hours out of my life from 9 to 10 for the last 4 days, I would! Unfortunately, no lawyer would take the case!
The show is just as bad as it was. No matter how many of us complain about you all talking over each other you still insist on doing it.
The topics are not of interest to this female Senior Citizen.
I too am going back to Good Day L A. Good bye KTLA. You've finally lost this viewer!

I like the idea of the men joining in, however, they all speak at the same time!! including the guys. As for Michaela, I really like her, some of you see her as a diva or having an attitude, but she not, she's like Gail, they say what is on their mind, that is all. Jessica on the other hand makes me nervous, she can not sit still, but I won't want her to lose her job,it is sad to hear say she doesn't put pictures or anything in her office because she never knows when is her last day. Maybe they can find something else for her to do. Cher is the one with "I think I'm better than thou" attitude.
Mark, Sam, Frank, Eric & Michaela.....Love Ya!
Posted by: Carmen gw | May 26, 2008 at 02:14 PM
Carmen gw I would have to disagree with you. Evidently you've missed the segments when Michaela corrects her colleagues right "on the air" which is very disrespectful and unprofessional! She's done it on many occasions!
Also, you must have missed the day that she told the viewers "to get over it" when we were complaining about the new format!
I don't see Cher as having a "better than thou" attitude at all. In fact if anything she sits back and observes and then speaks her mind when appropriate.
I love and respect Cher very much!
Isn't it interesting how we ALL see things differently and interpret situations differently too? I think that's what makes being an American so awesome! The fact that we have that right!!!
Posted by: Dan | May 26, 2008 at 02:39 PM
Dan,
I have to agree with you. Not only does Michaela correct her colleagues, but has also called a guest by the wrong name for the whole segment. And you are correct about Cher, she is always professional on the show. But that comes from experience.
As for Jessica, her future may be in radio. There her mannerisms won't be a problem. Maybe Sam or Mark can help her when the time comes since they both worked in radio. And she has experience with doing traffic and weather.

Mark, I know you say to just wait "there are more changes to come". I just dont think I can wait. Jessica is to loud and Michaela is to rude. Going to GDLA where the show is fun - like your show use to be.
Posted by: Linda | May 26, 2008 at 05:56 PM
Mark, thanks for your personal video of your skydiving rush. I was disappointed in the 9:00 - 9:22 hour. I must say Jessica did a good job of refraining herself from talking at the same time as others. You could see she was really trying. What disappointed me was that they were going to show summer wear. So now the show is part "The View" and "Style." I did find the cheating spouses segment interesting. Tell Gayle that not all animals have the instinct to not be monogamous. Penguins I recall are monogamous. I would also like to believe that we have better brains and are able to understand compassion, forgiveness, consequences of our actions more so than our fellow mammals.
Posted by: George the Rat | May 26, 2008 at 06:16 PM
George the Rat I got to hand it to you! More power to you for sitting through while waiting for "the change" to come.
I can't yet. There's not enough of a change for me to come back just yet. I gave it my best try last week for 3 days to try and get through that third hour. It's like "Fool me once, shame on you KTLA. Fool me twice, well, then just shame on me"!
Posted by: Dan | May 26, 2008 at 06:51 PM
I hope the changes promised will all be for the better. I have already been disappointed enough as it is for the drastic changes made to the KTLA Morning News as well as for the 9AM show. Can't wait for the changes to happen...that is, if it is worth looking forward to this time around.
Simon
P.S. What will be the changes made beyond the 9AM? New 5AM and 6AM co-anchor? More new graphics? New set? The return of Carlos Amezcua? Etc.?
Posted by: Simon Oh, Fullerton, CA | May 26, 2008 at 06:53 PM
Hey, where is Eric? I didn't see him behind the desk with Cher when I switched on at 6:30? Is this one of the changes?
Posted by: Paul - Rat Packer & F.S.S.G. memeber | May 27, 2008 at 06:55 AM
It's about 7:39am and it's time for another skit?!? OMG, will you PLEASE stop with the stupid skits?
Posted by: Donna | May 27, 2008 at 07:41 AM
Well Donna it's 7:40 am and they just did another stupid skit. This time they introduced Lucas as "Producer Lucas"??? Did I hear that right? Wasn't he just an "Intern" a couple months ago?
I guess the requirements for going from Intern to Producer is to be good looking (the only thing he really has going for him), able to plunk a couple chords on a guitar, have a not so "on key" singing voice, be a horrible actor - and YES YOU TOO CAN BE A PRODUCER OF THE MORNING NEWS!
Posted by: Gloria | May 27, 2008 at 07:47 AM
Now KTLA that story of the little girl being escorted to the Ball by her brother who has been in Iraq - Now that's what I'm talking about. Those are the kind of stories you cover that get my attention!
That was absolutely AWESOME!
Posted by: Dan | May 27, 2008 at 07:50 AM
Gloria, what's with the guitar-playing interludes anyway? That's another thing that drives me up a tree.
I don't know...I've just about had it with this whole watch-KTLA-in-the-morning thing. It's fine before 7am and not too bad right after that, but it progressively seems to get worse as the mornings go on. I still can't watch the 9am hour - I tried and just can't do it. It's still awful.
It's such a disappointment. I've watched the morning show forever and it's crap now. It used to be such a high-quality show, but not anymore. I'd switch to some other local show but those are even worse. Thankfully, there are some other things I can watch online at 9am so that I don't have to subject myself to more garbage.
