BUCKLEY BLOG: The Fires

5:43 AM  October 14, 2008

We're back on the air this morning with our coverage of the fires. On Monday, we began our reporting at 5 A.M. and stayed on for 12 straight hours. We were back on the air in prime time with updates and of course we returned with a full hour at 10 P.M. We'll do it again today if events warrant.

I'm beginning the day with a prayer for the firefighters, our crews and reporters in the field, and for the homeowners and others whose homes are in the path of the fire.

Feel free to use this blog as a way to let your friends, your family and the world know what's happening in your neighborhoods. Submit your views of the fires to our photo galleries.

The experts are saying this one could burn to the sea again. Let's hope they're wrong.

I just wanted to ask..What about San Bernardino Fires? All night I was watching to check for anything on the fires-s-s that are going on out there. I have family that are by the 215 frwy and the Little Mountain fire, But no coverage! I heard by family, that 200 Homes have been evacuated. No coverage by KTLA. It seems that, unless your home is expensive..it's not worth covering...and I thought KTLA was #1 in News Coverage!

frank has control over himself, well that's good to see a news anchor has more sense than the Mayer. going to a baseball game while your city is on fire. that's like not going to your wife in labor because your girlfriend called u over. what i am getting at is no matter what the decision is that the mayor did it was not a good one the city is on fire. hello, why don't we get a beer to calibrate, now can u taste the bad taste of sarcasm

Good job Frank! Watched all morning, all afternoon and at primetime.. Glad to see you there ALL DAY & NIGHT LONG!! You are the best.. Hopefully you got a good night sleep. You looked great this morning, well rested! KTLA had great coverage yesterday on the fires. A job well done. Cher, Eric and Ginger did a wonderful job also! Kudos to all!!

I'm with Bob, it was disgusting to see Mayor Tony and Chief Billy enjoying themselves at the Dodger game last night. I recognize that they would have been "reachable" in an emergency, but dang - couldn't they go to an evacuation shelter and watch the game on TV with evacuees?

But, Mayor Tony never met a camera he didn't like (other than during his love adventure)

It is interesting that the Mayor and Police Chief can be in West Hills at one point and then be helicoptered to Dodger Stadium to view the game. Meanwhile thousands are being evacuated in the West Valley even though the fire headed east towards GHills. Perhaps we can all chip in and get the mayor a portable digital TV or laptop to watch the game when he's supposed to be on the fire line. At least he wasn't at the game with a female date.

I am utterly disgusted at all the press conferences the "brass" held during these fires. I think yesterday (Tues) there were 3 or 4 of them. They all love their camera time, it is really a love fest of the leaders who continually thank. praise and shoulder pat each other into adnauseum. That is their job and mind you get very good pay to do it. I continually think about the soldiers that put their jobs on the line 24 hours a day in Iraq and Afghanistan for a fraction of the pay these jousters get. The fireman are effective but don't face this on a day to day basis. They have excellent pay wages and benefits and get to see their families every day. Enough of this burocratic self absorbing narcissism. Mayor Villaraigosa and Arnie need to quit spending our tax dollars and stay out of the press cameras and lower our taxes.
Oh and Frank yesterday at 2:00pm you said poor Michaela had been reporting since 7:00 am and had to go home???? Oh what a horrible day for her. Most of us work every day 8 hours and commute as well another 1 or 2 hours on top of that. I think Ginger Chan had been in the bumpy helicopte since 5 am and was still reorting at 2pm. Lets not over work Michaela. Good Lord. Lastly I think you are an excellent anchor person, fair and intelligent. If it weren't for you I would never tune into KTLA since Carlos left and I am not even Hispanic.

Wednesday morning. 9am. What a relief to turn on the television set and you're all back in the studio interviewing Tommy Lasorda, Aunt Gayle's flashing JayZ concert tickets from the Palladium, and Jessica's walking us down LA Fashion Week's runway.

How lovely to have our city back.

Fire fighters continue to work the lines: Porter Ranch, 20% contained; Marek, 80% contained. Inch-by-inch, we're getting our skies back. Hooorah!

Great coverage, team KTLA.

Obama/Biden '08

As someone who had to leave their home Monday morning due to the Marek fire. I have to say a big thank you to all the fire fighters who did an outstanding job. (I did get to say thank you to a few who were up here putting out some hot spots). They stopped the fire from reaching our homes by the width of a street. And a big well done to the KTLA news team for the great coverage, especially Eric, Marco in the field and for Frank for manning the desk, and Ginger for staying in that E ticker chopper ride for as long as she did. You guys rock! That's the KTLA I remember. You did Hal proud.

As for the mayor going to the baseball game during the fires. I and I hope all the others who were effected by the fires remember that when it comes time to vote.

Obama/Biden '08 - Our only hope for a bright future.

Apologies in advance, Old Man Buckley -

Hey, has anyone heard about the new president nominee! Michael Douglas Carlin has set his mind to be kind and create world peace. With his book "A Prescription For Peace", he has great ideas of saving the environment from another great depression. If you want more information about how Michael Douglas Carlin will save our world, go to www.mikecarlinforpresident.info.

AS A RETIRED FOREST SERVICE FIREFIGHTER, I WOULD LIKE TO ASK YOU TO PLEASE TELL YOUR TELECOPTER CREW THAT WHITE SMOKE ON A BRUSH FIRE DOES NOT MEAN "IT'S LOOKING BETTER." WHITE SMOKE ONLY INDICATES THE TYPE OF FUEL THAT IS BURNNG. FOR GOSH SAKE DO NOT TELL THE FOLKS IN THE AREA THAT THINGS ARE BETTER BECAUSE OF WHITE SMOKE. YOU ARE PASSING OUT WRONG INFO AND COULD CAUSE A PROBLEM!!!!!!!!! DO NOT ACT SO STUPID!

I am so sad about what is happening with the fires. Especially when it destroyed some of the residents home. Those people are very unfortunate that now they do not have any homes. they do not have a home to go to every night. they did not only lose their house but also all of their memories and important stuff they had been saving their have accumulated throught all of their lives. some people prob. lost the only home the had lived in their whole lifes. if I was them I would be very disappointed and supper dupper sad. not only peoples home but a lot of animals habitat was also destroyed. we lost a lot of nature like trees and plants. now the air pollution is worse. all the smoke is messing up our air more than it already is, luckily we have firefighters. heroes who risk their lives to save others. they deserve more than what they are given. I respect all of the firefighters so so so much they are like the coolest people ever!. . . it takes a lot of courage for anyone to become a firefighter. thanx to them the fire has not grown as much as it could have without being sustained by the firefighters. so I think that they are the coolest people ever. I really really hope that all of the fire fighters working in the fires stay safe. they are too nice for anything bad to ever happen to them

I would like to know if there is a place to take clothes and toys and things for the people who lost their homes and mobile homes today?

I'm in Yorba Linda and i can see the smoke from the Corona Fire right now covering the skies

Right now in east Yorba Linda a house is on fire

I live in Mission Viejo and have 2 cats that are used to a dog. I am opening my home to fire stricken families for help and support.
Please contact me at Fantasiatls@hotmail.com

Jamie Chambers is at the 57 Fwy & Tonner Cyn, not the 91 or 90. Went thru there this morning. Very eerie.

I am so disgusted by the segment on the transgender couple having a baby. Why give that freek couple any time on TV. It is be-on me why you do not report the news anymore..
