Flying Home with Fido for the Holiday

Thanksgiving just wouldn't be the same without Fido, or Fluffy, or Spot.
More and more often: People are flying somewhere for the holiday with their pets.
The airlines make it fairly easy if you have a small dog or cat. Generally, you can bring your pet if he or she fits in a carrier that can be stowed underneath the seat in front of you.
Of course, they will charge owners around $80 per animal. Different airlines have different restrictions. A website called BringFido.com has some pretty good information.
Federal rules state that to carry your animal on board the plane "your pet must be harmless, inoffensive, and odorless." It must also remained stowed for the entire flight.
Larger dogs can be transported, too. But generally they must travel in the cargo hold of the plane. From what I understand, that may not be as pleasant a place to be.
At LAX on this day before Thanksgiving, we ran into TiJuana Bradley. She was flying to Chicago with
her cat and Carly, her dog.
Carly is a frequent flier. "She's been on 5 flights, so she's well-travelled," says her owner.
And probably better behaved than some of the human passengers you see on some trips.
