Gymnasts Show True Sportsmanship

5:06 PM  January 28, 2008

Ucla_gymnasticsI had never been to a college gymnastic meet, until this weekend, when I wandered into Pauley Pavillion at UCLA to watch the Bruins compete against Stanford.

It was a whole lot different from any sporting event I've ever seen, either professional or amateur.

The meet is divided into four different competitions:  the vault, the uneven bars, the balance beam, and the floor exhibition.  Those parts look just like what you've seen in the Olympics.  What was interesting to me is what you don't normally see in any televised sport.

As each athlete competes, her teammates stand in a line a few feet away.  They clap and cheer and jump up and down.  Everybody gives encouragement.   They genuinely want their teammate to do well.  And after each competitor finishes, the others on the team slap her high-fives.

At the end of the meet, there is an awards presentation.  Those who did well got cheers and hugs from members of their own team, AND from the opposing team, too.

It sure looked like everybody was happy for the success of everyone involved.   What a concept in sports!

Senator McCain is an embarassment to the Republican Party with his embelished slanderous attacks, He doesn't have anything positive to address about his plan or the economy, does he have no clue what's happening in present day or has his time come and gone? People in glass houses should not throw stones... Palin is a joke, it was another bad choice in judgment on his part. How would he like if a tape was ran, whereas he stated "don't worry about the cost of the war, we'll have plenty of oil to pay for it" What does that suggest to the american people? Blood for oil perhaps... I've been in contact with Michael Moore and he is going to run an entire hour of McCain's tapes with all his political ties to unsavory individuals and their business dealings and poor judgment calls on behalf of VETS and issues that have ultimately hurt the American people. Videos don't lie...

The proposed mass bailout of the rich and greedy is just too much.
To bail out the rich and corporate guys, whose greed, fraud and/or negligence got their companies and everyone else into the jam they are now in (without any dismissals, prosecutions or penalties), while letting the poor and working class people suffer the loss of their homes, life savings and investments, is totally outrageous and simply too much to swallow. Reject this ultimate take over of our country by the rich and privileged. Urge the application of the bailout funds to the poor and working class.
Convert poor and working class persons' mortgages into negative amortization loans with affordable monthly payments and payoffs when they sell their homes. Ultimately everyone will recoup and benefit.

I would like to comment on the female commentator from last night’s track wreck broadcast. During the removal of the female LAPD officer, the KTLA commentator kept referring to the body as a “Man.” I’m aware that KTLA did not know at that time that the Officer was a female but to automatically assume it was a man and continue to refer to the Officer as a man, is extremely disrespectful. As a female LAPD officer, I would like your commentators to have a little more compassion and realize that before they know the facts, speak with a little intelligence. Refer to Officers as “Officers,” not by man or female until you know the facts. There were many Officers watching that broadcast who knew exactly who the fellow Officer was and who knew her personally. There are many, many female Officers that fight daily to keep the City of Los Angeles safe, have some compassion and realize that you're being protected by both men and women.

why didn't the lovely Ms. Palin address ANYTHING about the hurricane Katrina victims and this administration's ineptitude in dealing with it!!!! How would she rectify the situation...this angers me beyond belief.
