Obama Photo Flap
7:55 AM February 26, 2008
One thing we all learn in television: Pictures are sometimes more powerful than words.
That's why Senator Barack Obama's campaign advisors are angry about the photo of him wearing a turban. It was actually taken in 2006, when Obama was visiting Kenya. The locals there gave him some of their clothing to wear, and he obliged.
Now, all of a sudden, the photo is circulating again. And in this country, where folks are very much worried about terrorism, the image of Obama wearing an "Arab" headdress is seen as damaging.
The photo resurfaced on The Drudge Report. Drudge said "Clinton staffers" sent it -- something the Clinton campaign denies.
I'm always amazed when politicians try to blend in by wearing gear they're not accustomed to wearing. Remember when Michael Dukakis put on a helmet and drove around in a tank. That "tanked" his campaign.
Sometimes it's best to just wear "normal" clothes, even if you look out of place. Don't worry about offending your host. These days, with the internet and YouTube, if you put on something embarrassing, it could come back to bite.

What a coincidence. Only days ago Chris Matthews (MSNBC) was accused of dirty politics when a picture of Osama bin Ladan appeared behind him while he reported a story about Barack Obama. Somebody's been busy making mischief.
