Super Bowl Highlights and Lowlights
10:09 AM February 4, 2008
Most people are spending part of today talking about aspects of that big sporting event that people watched yesterday. So here are some opinions from me:
THE GAME: I watched on a 46-inch HD screen... my first time seeing it in High-Def. It's such an improvement. In years past, the Super Bowl has turned into a Super Bore... Many of the games have not been all that exciting. This one was pretty much a yawner until the very end, when everybody's blood started going. The guy on the Giants who caught that one pass with his helmet, David Tyree, deserves an award. I think his effort proves the Giants just wanted to win slightly more. I was rooting for NY because they were the underdogs. However, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the Pats when their perfect record was spoiled.
THE COMMERCIALS: Enjoyed the Budweiser Clydesdale "Rocky" satire the best... But when the Victoria's Secret ad came on, one of the other male viewers watching simply said the word "Oy!" -- a comment that needed no explanation. Overally, I thought the commercials this year were not all that imaginative and creative.
THE HALF-TIME SHOW:
Not very inspiring. I mean, I liked Tom Petty when I was in high school, but these days he's not exactly cutting edge. Why couldn't they have chosen a performer who is more current? Is it because the sponsor (Bridgestone Tires) was worried about having another wardrobe malfunction (remember Janet Jackson!)? I enjoyed the Prince set at half-time (last year?). At lease he always keeps his performances interesting. Even the choice of the Rolling Stones a few years ago wasn't bad. Who doesn't like watching them perform. But Tom Petty? Not exactly a barnburner.
What are your opinions, likes, dislikes, etc.?... Share them here, please.

Since we had to attend mass at 5:00 p.m. I missed most of the commercials and the half-time show. I agree with you that Tom Petty isn't the most exciting performer, but at least I didn't feel disappointment at missing his performance!
The best part, of course, was the last few minutes when the Pats scored, then the Giants scored with only seconds to spare! I was rooting for the Giants because I don't like the Patriots and my own team (Denver Broncos) got left in the dust back at the beginning of the season.
