I HATE THE NEW FORMAT..BRING BACK DJ HOPPA AND THE OLD FORMAT NOW.. I AM NO LONGER A LOYAL VIEWER.. I COULDN'T TAKE IT ANY LONGER..LASTED THRU LOSING BABARBA,CARLOS,NOW THIS.. WAS IT WORTH THE RATING POINTS ???

To R.B. and Dan..heck, with that kind of logic, I have to agree. I do miss DJ Happa. I have to admit..maybe I had a senior moment, but I'm not that old! At the time of the 9 am format, I wondered where he was. I thought maybe they would bring him back. Thanks R.B. for reminding me that the 9am hour was awesome, and Dan, sorry I misunderstood. I appreciate all your opinions.

Dan thank you for the compliment.

I'm trying to think what Triumph "The Insult Comic Dog" would think about the 9am.

HeHeHe The 9am hour is unwatchable, it would be like Pooping on Poop.

That's a joke so no one be offended.

Thank you R.B. that is exactly the point I was trying to get across too, but failed at doing.
That 9 AM hour with DJ Happa was AWESOME! They should never have changed anything about that hour of entertainment!
They just don't get that thats what we want back! I refuse to turn in to the 9 AM hour. KTLA: Fool me once shame on you - Fool me twice, shame on me!

Laura

I remember during the 90's they had a 9am hour a couple of times during those years and they didn't work out. When they brought it back in '06 the Hot Topics and DJ Hoppa set it apart from the 7am two hour newscast, and I liked it that way, along with other viewers. Though in that hour they would have cooking segment or a seasonal gift segment, etc. For you to say it was an extension of the earlier two hours I have to strongly disagree.

The 9am show is nothing more then a generic local version of The View and if you like it that's fine that's your choice. If you like the View style show then watch The View channel 7.

Alot of us here don't like what the 9am hour has become and we want it back. My opinion about the ladies at the desk is the same as most everyone else here.

Dan May 25, 7:54 post..I think you misunderstood what I meant by "extension." I meant the 3rd hour format was like the original two, in the beginning..not that the new format was like the first two hours. They are both very different. Just to clarify, that TPTB decided a different format for the 3rd hours, which did not always exist. I also wish that they had not changed the format, but since it seems it's here to stay, I go along with it and it has grown on me as it gets better. That's all I was trying to say..

I don't mind anyone saying whatever they want in response to my comment. I really don't. I'm not one to argue or say you are wrong in your thinking. We are all entitled to our own. I was just saying that to me the 9am hour is ok for me. I did feel that in the beginning there was much room for improvement. I understood what you all were saying. I'm glad the powers that be are starting to listen to those concerns and suggestions how the show can be better. There is still much room for improvement. But say whatever is on your mind as far as my comments are concerned. I've been a blogger a very long time on many sites and understand that we are not all going to agree.

Have a great day.

Eric, today's 9 AM show was so embarrassing to watch with those 3 women, (especially Jessica) literally drooling over Antonio Sabato Jr.
I was embarrassed for all of you associated with KTLA.
I'm sorry Eric, you asked us to watch and I've done what you asked of me for 4 days now.
I can't any more! It's too much for this Senior Citizen to watch! Do these ladies not watch their hour on replay or what?
Eric, I'm begging you, please get us our 9 AM show back to like it was prior to March 17th. PLEASE Eric, please!

Well folks, we've asked for the ratings and this morning Sam gave them to us!

WTF? "A 7% drop in Oprah's ratings, since she endorsed Barack Obama."

Tell me I didn't just hear him give me Oprah's ratings! Tell me I didn't hear that after we've been asking for months for KTLA's 9 AM Morning Show ratings! Somebody, anybody, tell me I didn't hear that this morning!

Maria,

I agree with everything you said except for the part about Michaela. Others have said here on the blogs that she's bossy or she's a diva. She has shown both those traits, especially since the format change. I would guess we may will see a different Michaela now that Mr. Goldner is gone.

Maria,

That's the problem here. If you pass a negative opinion of anyone you are labeled mean, nasty or jealous! So it is sometimes hard to get a personal opinion across.

But here I go! I, too, wish they would return to the way it was before March 17th. I like Michaela and think she is being treated somewhat unfairly over the "get over it" comment and the Stephanie Edwards episode. True, Stephanie was treated very shabbily and it was embarrassing to watch her being relegated to the stands in the pouring rain, but that was hardly Michaela's fault. It was the fault of the PTB. Michaela is a very smart, professional person and I think she works well with my other favorites, the unflappable Mr Buckley and the ever- quirky Mark Kriski. He is unique and I love him. Sam Rubin's isn't so bad, either, although I think this has been a rough time for him lately having to kowtow to the PTB. Cher is so good that I feel she will be off and onto National TV before long. She has everything going for her - good looks, intelligence and professionalism. Now Jessica! I think she just doesn't have the chops for the job - the staring into the camera and constant arm movement, the desperate talking over the others, the coffee mug always in her face. For a 31 year old she is so immature. She has not shown that much improvement in the two years she has been with KTLA. Oh, and not to forget Gayle Anderson, Aunty Gayle as they call her now Have enjoyed her for years. She is the most down-to-earth, gutsy, funny person I've ever seen. I love her the best! AND, of course, who doesn't like Eric! Okay, that's my opinion. I'm waiting for my head to be bitten off now!!

Dan and Jason thanks for your response. I wanted to write something like to Laura's comment but couldn't find the words. Anything I would have said would have sounded mean and nasty.

Thanks again

Laura in Los Angeles says; "As far as I'm concerned the Morning Show with Michaela, Cher and Jessica is gravy."

I don't like gravy at 9 o'clock in the morning! Gravy is fine with dinner but not for breakfast!!

I, would prefer that they left it the way it was prior to March 17th, Laura in Los Angeles.
My God I thought we had all, those of us against this new format, made that quite clear.
We liked Frank, Sam, Mark and Michaela or Cher (when Michaela was out) discussing HOT TOPICS for the first 20 minutes with an A list Celebrity weighing in with their point of view. We don't like the 3 women talking OVER EACH OTHER. Well, Jessica especially talking over the other women and also constantly looking into the camera to make sure it's always on her at all times. If you consider that an extension of the 2 hours, then so be it. I don't consider it that way. I like to refer to it as the old 9 AM format prior to March 17th.
I'm sorry if we hadn't made that clear and it was still confusing to you or others.

People, people, people. Can any of you remember please that the third hour of the Morning News is an extention of the original two hours and did not always exist. The third hour was to extend the news and segments that for the most part, repeated what the original two were. The fact that the powers that be decided two hours was enough to get the important news in, they decided to try something new. Would you have prefered to have them drop that 3rd hour and go back to being 2 hours only? As far as I'm concerned the Morning Show with Michaela, Cher and Jessica is gravy. I wish people would realize you get 2 full hours of the show already. What is the complaint? That you don't get three of same?

George,

I have to agree with you about Ginger Chan. I think she's doing a bang up job with the traffic reporting. She doesn't get on my last nerve like Jessica does. I hope they keep her around. I don't know what kind of changes they could do for the shows before 9:00 other than changing talent around. I think Eric and Cher are very good together. Cher makes an effort not to talk over others, the same can't be said about Michaela or Jessica. Michaela always wants to have the last word and Jessica just talks and when she's not talking she's looking at the camera. Michaela and Jessica can be compared to strong drink. Best when taken in small amounts.

R.B.

Tom Leykis may know a thing about making a buck or what kind of wine to drink. But it's his other advice for men about women is what gets me. He's a bitter man who's been married four or five times and that comes through with his opinion of women. I've met him and was not impressed by him at all. Now Frank Kramer of Frosty, Heidi and Frank on the other hand is one cool dude.

I think that Ginger Chan has been doing a great job with the traffic report. I don't think I've ever seen her make a mistake. I don't like the idea of seeing Jessica back in the sky unless Ginger or Chuck are on vacation. We don't see Bill too much anymore. I like his one tank of gas reports. I think Jessica would be great in the field. Kim will be going on maturnity leave in the summer so they definitely should keep Jessica. With her looks she's likely to attract non-viewers who see her on location. She's an asset. Plus she's a great replacement when Mark takes off.

As what was also mentioned today…putting away even $5.00-$10.00 as week (or pay period) really adds up…faster then you think. I remember what it was like when I was single, (all those years ago) and not thinking about tomorrow but what you learn “early” WILL pay off as the years pass…and they pass sooner then you think!! lol

Leykis also talks about investing, when to buy real estate on his show if callers ask. People reading this can like him or hate him but when it comes to money he apparently isn't a fool.

Paul

You're right about needing to buy clothes and gas and stuff. It affects us all but she also said from a previous show that she shops at a expensive food store. I hope she takes Gayle's advice and shop at Food 4 Less. She should also listen to Tom Leykis cause he also gives out basic advice on how to save money such as not getting coffee at starbucks.

R.B.

I heard that too. The only thing I can think of as to why Jessica doesn't have any savings is she is living beyond her means. I have no idea what she makes at KTLA, and I would hope she got a bump for doing the lame 9AM show. She said she lives in West Hollywood. not the cheapest place for rents. And then she has to buy clothes for the show and other living expenses. And everything is going up, food, gas. And for all we know she spends like there is no tomorrow. But she should look into putting something away considering what kind of business she's in.

Simon Oh

Because of CBS Royally screwing themselves over i've been watching KABC along with KTLA. To answer your question about what happened to Marti Johnson last I saw her on TV she was doing news reports for ABC News in Washington earlier this year but haven't seen her on there recently.

After catching the 9am show Water Cooler Buzz (from now on if you see my responses i'm calling it Hot Topics or Todays Topics). Anyways after watching it Sam Rubin you in the Indy getup doing YMCA makes you look gay (as in lame) sorry had to say.

As for people commenting on Jessica Holmes i'm a bit angry at her because although she admits this she worries that she may not have a job and yet has no kind of savings. How long has she been there two or three years and she doesn't have any savings. She needs some financial education and fast and I hope Gayle Anderson helps her. I'm about a couple of years older then her, looking after relatives who are not in good health and whatever money I get doesn't last long not cause of crazy spending but just trying to stay afloat.

Is it just me or anyone else here ticked off by this.

Eric,

The 9AM show still needs work. Like someone said, the men need to be in for the whole show, not just the totally lame "water cooler talk" segment. And they need to dump the intro with the photos of the girls. It too fluffy. News is what it's all about. Not shoes or skid marks in underwear. Los Angeles is a big city with lots of things going on. And LA is part of KTLA call letters. Be this city's source for news, not fluff. Bringing the men back is a good start, but the issue of the crass and unprofessional comments made by your past managerment and staffers to the viewers has to be addressed as well either on the air or on the blogs. Then the healing can begin.

I agree with you, too, Dan - I like Jessica but not on the set. She was much better as a traffic reporter. And the intro of the women doesn't fit anymore since they let the men speak for a few minutes. Hopefully, they'll revamp that soon.

Simon - KTLA currently has the Executive Producer position listed on their job offerings, so maybe John Hensley is already out the door or headed that way. After what he did to the morning show, he needs to be gone!

Dan--You're right, the more I think about it, the more I think that Jessica might be the weakest link here. She was fine in the chopper--she got promoted to the big chair WAY too fast.
I love Gayle as the queen bee correspondent (she's so very talented), and the best thing they did with 9a is to give her a voice.
What to do with Jessica? Can't really put her back in the chopper--food correspondent? Everybody loves food. Just--get her out of the chair.

Darn, I wish I had been here today for the 9:00 a.m. hour! Won't be here for the 9:00 a.m. hour tomorrow either due to a prior commitment :(

As a result, I can't comment about the "changes" referenced.

That said, I don't like "Water Cooler Buzz" as a tagline - who hangs around a "water cooler"? Maybe it should be "Coffee Pot Drip"?

I (sort of) look forward to Friday's 9:00 a.m. "show"

Linda I really have to agree with a lot of what you posted.

They do have some more changes to make. I liked Jessica when she was in the helicopter, but she annoys the Hell out of me now. She's like a hyper active child that needs her Ritalin! I've never watched more than 5 minutes of the 9 AM show since the change and I had no idea what everyone was talking about. She really is bad at talking over everyone. She needs to CALM DOWN!
Myself, I'd like to see Gayle come in and be the female with all the men! Then you'd have a show! But, they really need to cut it down to either Michaela or Cher with the men, bring back Frank to join Mark, and Sam and have an A list Celebrity sitting in for HOT TOPICS. Where and who suggested "Water Cooler Buzz". It just grates on my last Gay nerve! LOL.
Anyway, I will only watch for the first segment with the men, because the rest just doesn't interest me at all!
And cut that horrible intro of the women with their childhood pictures! Go back to the regular intro back before March 17th, or BLACK MONDAY as I like to refer to it.

KTLA, don't you have any QUEENS on your staff that can give you some helpful hints on what works and what doesn't? Where's Carson Kressley or Jai Rodriguez when you need them???

I gotta hand it to you, Mr. S, for giving us a heads up on the changes made to the 9AM show. However, I am still dissatisfied over the new format and the changes made this morning are still not good enough. THIS IS FOR EVERYONE READING THIS POST: If you wanna join me in having Exec. Producer John Hensley fired, let's do it. It was probably all his idea to destroy such a wonderful concept into something that has significantly been watered down. He is the reason why many of the loyal viewers of the KTLA Morning Show @ 9AM have defected to other stations or not watch TV at all during this hour. Call me a nagger if you want if you do like this current, godawful format but I'm like millions of other KTLA viewers who want to see more changes made to the 9AM hour. It was a big mistake to ever let this idea of a new format materialize.

Simon

P.S. Whatever happened to reporter Marti Johnson?

i can only watch the 9:00AM for a few minutes. With Jessica screaming and Michela trying to be the center of attention, it's just to much confusion. Sorry Michela, I have not cared for you as a anchor since you let them do to Stephanie what they did. If you were as strong as you try to make everyone think you are, you would not have let that happen.

The 9:00AM hour is ruined. I started watching at that time because topics were interesting and relevant to world around us. Carlos ran a good show and I didnt feel like I wasted an hour. You guys messed up big time letting him go.

Ok, Eric, I said I would give it a try and would be pissed if I were mislead. You did not mislead us, but, it's nothing back to what it once was.
I'm sorry ladies, but 2 of you need to go from the 9 am hour. It was so good when Michaeal stood to the right of you all, and FRANK was there with Sam and Mark! That is the CHEMISTRY we are all referring to. And God, I'm begging you, quit calling it "Water Cooler Buzz" - you might as well bring a chalk board out and just run your finger nails down it for 15 minutes! It's HOT TOPICS people about CURRENT EVENTS! And you need to have your A LIST Celebrity back with you to discuss the HOT TOPICS and give THEIR view and opinion too!
I agree it is almost back there, but the thing I'm hearing from us LOYAL VIEWERS is the CHEMISTRY still isn't back to what it was!
I haven't watched the entire hour that I taped but, I will probably add another comment regarding the remainder when I view it.

ATTENTION NEW MANAGEMENT; Please don't ignore us like your predecessors did. We do have some valuable ideas and we know what keeps us tuned to KTLA during 9 AM. At least LISTEN to us and maybe WORK with us on what WE WANT. Ask us for viewermail on what we like and dislike about the 9 AM hour - see the common complaints and then work on those. You have made an attempt, but as someone else put it, YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE CHANGED, WHAT WASN'T BROKE!
It's going to take major work to get us to come back - WE WERE TREATED LIKE CRAP (I figured that's the polite word to use)! WE are the ones you need to have tune in or you'll be showing reruns of some 80's sitcom. WE are the ones who will buy the products your sponsors are trying to sell during the 9 AM hour.

BTW Eric, I have to echo some of the comments here too. The men need to be brought back into the “body of the show” again. One reason KTLA has always done so well was the BALANCE they brought to their programming. This balance is still missing. Yes, it is great to see the guys back in the beginning but other then Frank updating with the news at 930a, the men are absent and create huge unbalance and hole. I’m all for “girl power” but the chemistry still isn’t there. “Fluff” seems to still fit the show content. I still can’t figure out why it was all changed to begin with. Why change what wasn’t broken. #1 in the mornings to ?? You’ll never please everyone but this decision still baffles me. Balance and Chemistry made KTLA #1 and that is what it will take to bring them to #1 again.

Same as GA, I lasted about 30 minutes. I like the set change and I like the "water cooler buzz" portion (although I could do without calling it that), but the rest of the show just doesn't interest me. If I want information on skin care or how to put together the perfect picnic, I'll watch one of the other morning "fluff" shows (I refuse to call them news shows since their content doesn't qualify as news to me). Why can't you spend the whole hour discussing and debating the top local and national news stories? I am cautiously optimistic about the direction you seem to be taking. You're almost there. Keep it up and you may just regain this viewer.

Oh I agree with you about Jessica, Laura. I'm sure she's a sweet thing, but she makes me cringe when she's yelling over people to insert a comment that just--well, isn't worth yelling about. For instance, I would rather hear Cher's take on how this country eats too much, not how Jessica spends too much at Bristol Farms. One topic is relevant and worthy of debate, one not so much.

Well, maybe a slight improvement to the 9am hour, but there's still a ways to go. Thankfully, the seating arrangement has changed, and it was good to see Sam and Mark able to participate a little more at the beginning of the hour. However, the focus is still on the women and they still chatter way way too much. And Eric, where were you?

And I also noticed the comments about responding to viewer mail. That was pure BS.

Eric, I was very pleased to see the Anchors…back BEHIND the desk again! It looks better and there is far less of the bouncing around. “Water Cooler Buzz”, still hate the name but the topics were much better. I found the “Customer Service” topic VERY interesting. It’s amazing though how Sam can talk about the “Straight Scoop” and Michaela talking about how people want to be heard and acknowledge when they feel wronged or upset. HELLLLLOOOO?? That is what your viewers have been talking about for months! Still we are not acknowledged though…I don’t find her comments acknowledging, if that is what she was trying to do. I have one message for Jon though. NOW you want a phone # so that YOU can PERSONALLY call your viewers?? Is that so you can directly and rudely tell the viewer to grow balls and stop watching?? I can just imagine those conversations since there would be no way to prove what was actually said. Sorry, I do not like this man and find him extremely rude, inconsiderate and NOT the professionalism that KTLA standards USED to be. It is obvious that KTLA realizes that their NEW Morning Show was a flop. They would gain much respect to admit this to their viewers and apologize for their comments and treatment. At least the “work in progress” is going into the right direction.

p.s. I wish Jessica could settle down more. I realize this is her personality but she needs to not yell or talk over everyone. I have always liked Jess but she brings on a headache rather quickly. Slow down girl and you’ll do fine.

Well, I made it through about half an hour before changing the channel. They're back behind the desks, and Sam and Mark are on either side for the water cooler buzz thing where they're all talking over each other.
Its a start, and thanks for the alert, Eric, but the format is still too fluffy for me. I know the rest of the show is not that much different than the old one, but the mix is somehow off, and dagnabit I still miss Hot Topics.
Also, during the Mercury chairman buzz, listening to Michaela and Sam talking about how they always answer negative mail or comments, knowing they ignore us--Sam less so, I think, but Michaela stopped blogging altogether--it just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Back to cable news. Cheers.

We’ll see Eric. I’m standing with Dan though…if this is ruse, I’m NOT going to be happy. Management, Employees and even an Anchor has slapped us in the face so many times, (still waiting for someone to admit it too) over the past few months it is going to take more then a few changes. But as Donna and Dan both have stated, I trust you at your word. I’ll be back at 10a, possibly before.

"some of the changes have been reversed."

Some being the operative word?

Eric, only because it's YOU that is telling us this bit of information, will I set my VCR to record the 9 AM hour. I will be so PISSED though, if these are just very minor changes that don't really amount to anything. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt because I TRUST YOU Eric!
But, if these changes don't amount to much, I may never trust anyone at KTLA ever again, and will change channels before 9 AM.
You know it's so sad that it has come to this with the beloved KTLA. We've had management there that totally snubs and ignores their viewers. Obviously, the May Sweeps have definitely stated what we the viewers have felt since March 17th - that this was a disastrous move on management's part.
I hope the new manager will have the chutzpah to come on camera at some point and admit that a mistake was made and that they are doing everything to win back OUR trust and VIEWERSHIP!
I only hope that I'm not disappointed today when I watch back the tape of the 9 AM hour! After all I would normally be watching GDLA with their last minute coverage of AI finals. So again, I reiterate, I'm going to be so PISSED if there is no change of substance on today's show!

We'll see, Eric. It will take a lot of changes to bring me back. I've found something else to do when the 9am hour is on and I'm hesitant. However, when the news comes from you, I'm more apt to check things out.

Thanks for letting us know.
