On display now at the Edgemar Center in Santa Monica... it's made entirely of shopping carts.

I love this tree. My family and I take our picture by the shopping cart tree every year. How fun to know who the artist is and more about it! Thanks for sharing.

I know the name of the artist... It's me

thanks Eric and Happy Holidays
I thank the owner's and tenants of Edgemar for this commission that has become a tradition at edgemar. The construction is all held together with hose clamps and the carts go back to grocery stores after the holidays. I decorate the tree with slight changes. there are four mini carts at the top otherwise they are all standard carts each weighing 48 pounds. the tree is it's own scaffolding and to carry one cart to the top is quite a chore but worth it in the end... May you all have a shinny and bright holiday season...
83 carts in all. The display by the garage helps people find the tree on Main street. See you at the tree.
"Thank You"

Do you know the name of the artist?

This exhibit reminded me of the artist who creates art work using pieces of crayon. He says he was just experimenting. His first pieces sold for hundreds of dollars. A couple years later they're selling for hundreds of thousands. Even astounds him.

PLM, your comment about Monet reminded me of Gaudi. Art is in the eye of the beholder, e.g., Antonio Gaudi's unusual artistry.

Good idea ...uhh I guess???

Saves another majestic tree from being cut down just to die in a few weeks. So creating recycled tree a good thing.

Makes something kinda beautiful??? Out of something kinda ugly...
Shopping carts???

Problem? Wouldn't want to be standing near this contraption in the event of an earthquake! Betcha it just looks like an ugly tall stack of shopping carts in the day time!

Reality...

it's kind of like a Monet....probably looks a lot better from a distance as opposed to up close!

My suggestion to whoever invented it ...don't quick your day job!
