MJ 24/7: Enough Already!
10:33 AM June 29, 2009
For all of you who've written in saying that we are spending too much time covering the death of Michael Jackson, I agree wholeheartedly.
I'm tired of it, too.
You have to go back 25 years or so to get to the period of time when he was most recently an influence on popular music. For years he's ONLY been in the news for things like dangling kids over balconies, financial problems, cosmetic surgery, and allegations of child molestation.
So why the public outpouring of sorrow at his death and the non-stop coverage?
I wish I could explain it.
The story's getting downright absurd now. Examples:
*A London tabloid proclaims it has learned that Jackson weighed 112 pounds, nearly bald, and had semi-digested pills in his stomach at the time of death. TMZ says the story is a fake.
*Debbie Rowe says she has no interest in fighting to get custody of her (and MJ's) children. She says she was artificially inseminated. Her comments to a London newspaper: "Just like I stick the sperm up my horse, this is what they did to me. I was his thoroughbred." Best quote relating to the MJ story all day in my opinion.
*The attorney for the Jackson family says he's heard reports that MJ had a will but has yet to locate it. Is it possible that a guy who employed as many lawyers as Jackson did wouldn't have a will?
*Weird scene outside Jackson's rented mansion in Holmby Hills. The property owner has hired rent-a-cops to make sure Jackson's relatives don't steal stuff that doesn't belong to them. Four burly ex-LAPD officers are watching every car that leaves the driveway.
Can't wait to find out what we learn tomorrow!

It's a sad testament to how desperate American media truly is when all that is plastered on tv is MJ this, MJ that. The guy is dead...we get it. Let's move on news networks. 232,000 people die every day in this world, 232,000! The only reason he is getting this much coverage is because he is (was) Michael Jackson. We are the world, it's a thriller, and Billy Jean is not his daughter! Geezus, find something else to talk about on tv for God's sake!!!!!

PAUL & Frank: "No. MJ did not start the Make a Wish Foundation."
I think Frank was thinking of the USA for Africa Organization. Jackson co-wrote the song, "We Are The World." $8million proceeds went to feed starving people in Africa. The organization is small, but still going, though perhaps not much longer.

Hi Eric, thanks so much for your post. I totally agree with you and with what others posted about; especially in regards to our military personnel. At least it took publicity seeking 'octomom' and jon and kate out of the limelight for a little while. It's too bad that Farrah and other personalities that passed away within the last few days have not gotten some of the press time for the good things and causes that they did.

Joe Jackson would never get my vote for Father of the Year that's for sure. I don't know many fathers who would walk the red carpet just days after the loss of a child. IMO, he only cared about the money that MJ generated.

Eric,
You go guy!!! I am a Veteran who is on life support. I was not a fanatic of Michael Jackson, but did he not start the Make a Wish Foundation? I know he was very generous besides talented. He deserves the coverage basically because of the way he touched so many lives. God bless, Frank

I am really angered by all the coverage of Jacksons death. It is unfortunate, but I believe that there are far more important people out there that deserve the same kind of coverage as he has gotten. The men and women that are currently fighting in Iraq and in Afghanastan are far more worthy of this kind of news coverage than any entertainer. Especially the Marines Sailors Soldiers and Airmen that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

You're right, it's getting to be too much.
While I enjoy tuning in every now and then, to discover what's new in the MJ saga, I default to Judge Judy and NetFlix's "Monarch of the Glen" when I feel saturated. Those programs take me furthest away from the hype.
This morning on your program Sam Rubin mentioned Ne-yo's version of "Lady in My Life," which he performed during the BET Awards/Tribute to Michael. Ne-yo rocked it. Wow. So for today, I'm good.

Wow i think this is kinda harsh. There is a lot of coverage on Michael Jackson, But if you think about it and look back at from when he started and how long he has been making great MUSIC, this truley is a tragic time foer his REAL fans. I guess you have to love him as much as some of his fans do then you would be able to relate to how much this hurt a lot of people. He is like the next king (elvis) if you like to think that way or not. I am a very big Michael fan and i was very sad by the news, and i am glad for all the coverage on him. regardless of what he has done or gone through he is a human w/a heart, he also has done a lot of good for a lot of people in his life.

Did the Sgt. ever come to explain how 409.5(d) was revoked for the street on Holmby Hills?

thanks for some common sense, Eric!

Eric:
I agree -- this is waaaaaaay too much coverage of Michael Jackson's death.
The U. S. is about to reduce troop levels in Iraq. We [citizens] should be paying attention to what's about to occur there.
Or how about the California budget stall? Shouldn't we be paying more attention as to what is going on (or not going on) in Sacramento?
Michael Jackson contributed a lot to the music industry; but geeeeeeez, there is so much more important stuff going on.

Eric,
This is really going to get messy. You will see more and more people coming out of the woodwork trying to get a piece of the MJ pie. And the man isn't even in the ground yet. And I find it strange that the will hasn't shown up yet? Like you said, with all the lawyers that MJ had this should not be a problem. I really feel bad for his kids who are in the center of this. This fight will be in the courts for sometime. What a shame.
