93 Democrats and 178 Republicans cosponsor HR 1207
Congressman Ron Paul (TX-14) is pleased to announce that all 178 Republican members of the House have now signed on as cosponsors of his Federal Reserve Transparency Act, HR 1207.
This legislation calls for a full and complete audit of the Federal Reserve by the Government Accountability Office, reported to Congress by the end of 2010.
"Now more than ever, we need to know what the Fed has been doing in secret. I am pleased that all of my Republican colleagues in the House, as well as many Democrats, understand the need for this kind of transparency," stated Congressman Paul.
HR 1207 has a total of 271 cosponsors and has been referred to the House Financial Services Committee.

Right on, Gigi. Congratulations on your family reunion.
Just heard Michael Jackson merchandise that was to be sold during the "This Is It Tour" will be sold at Target and other vendors. More sales tax.
LOL

I find it ironic that at a time when the economy is in the tank, the unemployment line is growing and our state is on the verge of collapse, we are fretting over the money paid for the safety of the public. Millions of people finally have something to bring them together- a reason to travel and spend money. His album sales are soaring, memorabilla is selling like crazy. Not to mention the sentimental touch it has brought to many. My step-son, who we haven't seen in three years called his Dad (my husband) on Tuesday and appologized for the distance. We did not know where he lived or how to get ahold of him. We found out we have a new grandchild. He is coming to visit us in a few days. He said that the Michael Jackson headlines made him realize how important family is... Quit complaining about the money spent on public safety. It is being fully recouped in tax revenue from sales that would not exist were it not for his death. Focus on something positive.

Hey webmaster if you are going to remove posts, you should remove all posts that have nothing to do with the subject of that blog. This should not be a soapbox for one person's political agenda. Fair is fair dude.

Was that the cite merchants or the City Government you are referring to?..

you are so right, no way would I let any of my kids be in the same room with MJ, talent yes, pervert yes! It's a disgrace for the media to spend hours on this person who didn't even want to be black!

You make a very good point, Ange, but what about all the money the city made from tourists who came to LA to say goodbye, should that be ignored? Consider all the people who started gathering in LA from the time we heard of his death . . .

Our family has held 2 funerals in the last 3 months in LA and we had to pay for each officer in our motorcade. If I remember correctly we were told that we had to have 1 officer for every 12 cars at $120 to $150 each (I can't remember the exact amount). We have a very large family so for both funerals that ended up being around 30 officers. That's a lot of money for your average family. So my question is.. why do we the citizens have to pay for these public services but the family of a celebrity who obviously does have the money does not have to fork over the cash?? Why do WE have to pay for the security, this entire family decided they want to be famous, I feel the 4 million dollar price tag is just a consequence of being famous and they should pay for it.

Michael Jackson died. He was news. We listened. We watched. Done.
MONEY, Money, money . . . didn't Janet Perry say the city has a $100million emergency fund "for extraordinary circumstances"? If so, why is the city asking for contributions from us, the Jackson family and AEG? I thought that boat had sailed.
MOVING ON. If a senator, congress person, news anchor wants to uplift fine works performed by hard-working firemen, police officers, military and veterans they can do so any day of the week. We'd listen. But they don't. Maybe they don't think we're interested. So, now the forgotten has been identified. Let's see if anyone picks up the gauntlet and starts reporting news about these selfless folks.

Thank God this is over! Now the city needs to bill the Jackson family for $4 million to recoup the expenses of all this 'protection' they provided.
This entire affair today was way too much. MJ's promoter, AEG?, is making a bundle off all the junk being sold as keepsakes.
MJ is no legend, no icon, just a person who had a talent that people enjoyed, in the early years. At his death he was a drug addict (proven), a child molester (alledged, but why all the payoffs to keep it out of courts), and that's it. He hasn't been in the limelight in years, and he was hoping for a comeback. He is just part of an industry filled with drug use, various types of abuse and other crimes, so as can be seen, he was no different.
So, let's drop all this fuss and get on with real news and world events. Let's honor our real hero's, the police, firefighters and our military and veterans.

RIP Michael. You will be missed. Though many don't know it, you were one of the most generous people in our lifetime! RIP Michael.

That's a very good question. Why should the tax payers have to pay for this? Not everyone in this city are fans, but everyone will suffer from lack of services. We pay taxes for services like police and fire, yet the city leaders choose to reduce the budgets for these departments saying they can't afford them. Yet, they have the money for this. So who's telling the truth?
Posted by: Paul | July 07, 2009 at 02:36 PM
He is right! MJ was a child molester and a freak.
I don't understand why people can't remember that.

I am disgusted with all the coverage that Jackson has been getting and to top it off the city of L.A. is fronting the bill for the memorial service at Staples. Isnt this city broke or am i wrong in my information. As a vet i believe that it is the vets cops firefighters and select people that hold public offices that deserve this kind of coverage not some musician.

Do I saw some envy from Peter King? or am I the only one that I saw that? I don't think so. Every one choose what to do with it's life, so MJ choose to be a singer and the people the congressman is telling choose to be in the army, navy, etc, etc. When some of them fall the media tell us what is happening, and they were buried wiht honors. I am proud that all these people are defending our freedom, but you know, among them there are people that have an ice heart and only understand what is right for them not for others. I think every one has the right to pay his/her respect for MJ or for anyone elses.

I don't understand why LA tax payers have to pay for all of this when MJ performed across the world? People that are out of a job, losing their home, struggling day to day and not to sure what to do, are having to pay for this today. Why can't LA raise the money as before, and or the family and personal friends step up?
Thank you
Hurting too.

The coverage on Michael Jackson's death has been stifling and I can't wait for it to be over. Of course, then we'll be subjected to news coverage of the various trials about his will, control of his money, custody battle between the Jacksons and Debbie Rowe, etc. The possibilities are endless.
While I can understand mourning the death of a star, I think some of the Jackson followers are a little over the top. I also have a problem with the Jackson family being allowed to take over the City of Los Angeles for the funeral. The cost to the city is estimated to be $4 million. I hope the City of Los Angeles will seek reimbursement for the services provided to accommodate the funeral. Michael Jackson was a talented performer but his escapades in life cost tax payers lots of money.

Even in death Michael Jackson must endure people calling him out of his name. This wouldn't be so pathetic and embarrassing if the message wasn't delivered by a U.S. Senator. Shame on him.
Nothing wrong with uplifting firemen, police, teachers, military, especially on the 4th of July, but why at the expense of one American citizen?
Posted by: jozielee | July 07, 2009 at 07:16 AM
I agree that MJ news coverage is totally out of control and what should be in the news is the irresponsible Cap and Trade Bill and the ridiculous Health Coverage Bill that is being proposed, not to mention the idiots in the CA State Legislature that can't get the budget together, all of which will raise our taxes and plunge us into inflation like in the late 1970's. But...MJ sells and that's what the media does. They try to make money through ratings. Plus, the public doesn't want to know what's going on in government because it is too hard to understand and that's why they get drawn in to the frivolousness which is MJ, Anna Nicole Smith, etc.
