Mayor's Africa Travel Tab: $17,341.06
8:52 AM August 18, 2009
After some prodding and a formal California Public Records Act request, L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's office has finally released some details on his 8-day junket to South Africa, which began the day after he was sworn in for his second term in July.
The trip included business class airfare, stays at two luxury hotels that charged $1200-a-night, and three days of safaris at a private game reserve.
There was also a helicopter sight-seeing tour of the Cape, a visit to a South African vineyard, various side trips, gourmet meals, and a black-tie banquet.
Total cost reported by the Mayor's office was $17,341.06, all of it paid for by a Washington-based foundation called The Academy of Achievement, which brings together outstanding graduate students and "scholars, achievers, and honorees" to "exchange ideas", according to the group's website.
It's likely city taxpayers did have to pay for the Mayor's security. (He always travels with his LAPD security detail, says his spokesman Matt Szabo). But so far we haven't been able to find out how much that might have cost. The LAPD has rejected our request for that information, citing concerns about the Mayor's safety if that dollar figure was released. We'll keep trying to learn what it was.
You can read the records we received from the Mayor's office below:
Now, we've also tried to get information about the Mayor's vacation to Iceland last month, using a Public Records Act request. That one has hit a wall.
Villaraigosa's Deputy Legal Counsel Gabriel Sandoval writes that releasing those records would "reveal the Mayor's deliberative decision-making processes."
"The public interest served by not disclosing the record clearly outweighs the public interest served by its disclosure," he adds.
Okay, that makes me really curious. Read his letter yourself below:

Jared, People lie on job applications all the time to make themselves look better. I know that from other companies I have worked for and from job interviews I have conducted. Because of the nature of our work. We have an extensive background check and a lengthily hiring process. It's not likely a lie would make it through the process. So if the person is fired, it wouldn't be for a lie at the start. Does this answer your question?

China Set to be the First to Buy $50 Billion in IMF Notes
UPI.COM
Sept. 3, 2009
WASHINGTON, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- China's central bank will buy the International Monetary Fund's first set of bonds totaling about $50 billion, the IMF announced.
The purchase agreement with the People's Bank of China is the first such in the Fund's history and calls for the Chinese entity to invest up to $50 billion in IMF notes or Special Drawing Rights.
SDRs are interest-bearing reserve assets and a country holding them can convert them into hard currencies. Some countries reportedly have volunteered to arrange for the buying and selling of SDRs.
The bond sale is part of the IMF's effort to increase liquidity to fight the current global recession by boosting its members' reserves through SDR allocations. As much as $283 billion in allocations were announced at the Group of 20 summit last April in London.
When completed, the IMF's outstanding stock of SDRs would total about $316 billion.
IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn said the Chinese investment will help boost the Fund's lending capacity especially to developing and emerging markets and at the same offer investing countries safety and reasonable returns.
Xinhua news agency said besides China, Brazil, Russia and India, which together constitute what is called the BRIC countries, are potential buyers of the IMF bonds.

Larry,
Now if you are an employer and a possible new employee lied to you to get the job what would you do..
You would fire the individual if you had hired them, wouldn't you?
Why is it that we except lies from our public servants to get their jobs.. If we except lies and that politicians lie.. Then all we will get are lying elected political leaders...
No wonder the country is in such bad straights..
We need to hold our elected public servants/employees to a higher standard of no lies... Also remember our tax dollars pay their salaries..
Larry, i see the election process as a contract between the public servant and the people.. The possible public servant with their campaign promises, contract that they will perform certain campaign promise if elected.. Thus by these promises they induce the voter/employer to elected the candidate...
The voter honors their part of the contract by voting, now if the campaign promise was nothing but a campaign lie that is fraud used to induce another individual to perform some act/voting based on lies...
That is how i see it...
We need a Campaign Promise Contract Act... Where an elected public servant agrees that if they don't to their best try to fulfill their campaign promises they will not seek a reelection to office for another term..
As far as the Rev praying for me.. The Lord has given us a commandment of not to bear false witness....
With the Rev praying for me as a so-called hater he is bearing false witness to the Lord in his prayers and also to the public by calling me a hater without the facts to back it up...
Once again Rev since when has it been known that if someone disagrees with another individual it is now to be considered hate?

Jared,
A politician who lied to get votes, how shocking. Politicians in both parties lie, politicians lie period. it's nothing new. It's part of the game. No matter what party is in power, the other side will find fault. That's a given. And don't be so hard on the reverend, he seems harmless. If he wants to think Obama is God, let him. I don't think he's in a majority there. Besides isn't it better to have someone praying for you than calling you names? I think so. Let it go.

I disagree with the President Obama's Socialist agenda.. I took and Oath to defend the Constitution not to have the most non transparent President in the history of the country destroy the country for the likes of international bankers and global elite...

Look Rev its cool you want to pray for me and the president even if that means we want two different things. I want to be safe knowing me and my coworkers have jobs and control of own future. See Rev im just scared of goverment control of my life. I dont hate the president but I dont like his policys much. I think hes messing things up by getting the goverment involved in our lives. That scares me. Rev let me ask if you are a preacher and if so where and do you pray just to pray or do you really care if we don't agree much. Do you think the president is doing a good job and how is he. I dont see it.

Jared,
You are correct, I don't know you as a person. But like our lord, I know you through your actions that I see here. For someone who says he has no hate for our President. You spend a great deal of time working against him. I would not call that love. If one is against God, would one help build his house of worship or help tear it down? But you feel you are doing what you feel is true. As I said, I will pray for you. And I forgive you. Go with peace. God bless this country, God bless President Obama.
Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies.

So Rev. Roy why is it that when someone disagrees with someone and their policies, how is it that it is equated with hate of the individual you disagree with?
Why is it that you one can't disagree with someone else with out it being called hate..
or is it that rather then truly deal with the issues and points you can call it hate and be done with it...

There is no hatred of Obama I just want a President to honor their oath of office and and the US Constitution..
I hate no man or woman and for you to say that i hate someone when you know nothing about me you have judged me.. let me put it in a way you might understand
Matthew 7: 1-4
1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

Jared,
I see by the many comments that you have a very strong hatred for President Obama and that you don't see him in the same light that others like myself do. As I have for Benjamin, I will pray for you so that hate may leave you before that darkness consumes you. Take care. God bless American, God bless President Obama.
And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.

Commercial Real Estate Bubble
NEW YORK, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- A skid in the U.S. commercial real estate market could be accelerating as the recession begins to retreat, an IHS Global Insight market analyst said.
"We seem to be nearing the end of the recession but the situation in the commercial real estate market is getting worse," analyst Patrick Newport told USA Today Tuesday.
On Monday, the Federal Reserve extended a program six months to buy $200 billion of securities backed by commercial property, a program that has to date only lent investors $29.6 billion

Jared in answer to your question. The constitutional authority to protect this country if under attack by terrorists but using the military and other government agencies. The same way President Bush had all the planes grounded on 9/11. Terrorist could find a way to attack us through the Internet. Since everything is controlled by computers (banks, air traffic control, shipping, communications, highways, city services such as gas, water and electrical power, etc.) and they are all linked to one another by the Internet. I read that the Pentagon is attacked thousands a times a day by way of the Internet. So there is reason enough for this type of control. New technology, new controls and laws to govern that technology by those we elect to run this country. God bless American, God bless president Obama.
On a personal note. I also believe the Internet should be under the control by the government the same way television and radio are. To protect our children from harmful martial. The Internet is lawless. It needs to be policed.
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will
find; knock and it will be opened to you.

Rasmussen: Obama Approval Rating Falls To New Low
Rasmussen
Monday August 31, 2009
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 30% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-one percent (41%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -11 (see trends).
Twenty-nine percent (29%) are confident that Congress knows what it’s doing when it comes to the economy. If Americans could vote to keep or replace the entire Congress, 57% would throw out all the legislators and start over again. Just 25% would vote to keep the Congress.
The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update). Updates also available on Twitter and Facebook.
Overall, 46% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President’s performance. That’s the lowest level of total approval yet measured for Obama. Fifty-three percent (53%) now disapprove. Eighty-one percent (81%) of Democrats approve while 83% of Republicans disapprove. As for those not affiliated with either major party, 66% disapprove. See other recent demographic highlights from the tracking polls.

Bill would give president emergency control of Internet
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-10320096-38.html
Internet companies and civil liberties groups were alarmed this spring when a U.S. Senate bill proposed handing the White House the power to disconnect private-sector computers from the Internet.
They're not much happier about a revised version that aides to Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, have spent months drafting behind closed doors. CNET News has obtained a copy of the 55-page draft of S.773 (excerpt), which still appears to permit the president to seize temporary control of private-sector networks during a so-called cybersecurity emergency.

I found this.
Ron Paul supporters are nuts!!!
Ron Paul is a "Republican" candidate for president that has absolely no shot at becoming president...he's basically a Libertarian running as a Republican and there is no chance he's going to get any supporters from the Conservative base of the republican party...that's about all I can say about the man...his supporters are a different story.
Ron Paul suppoters are engaging in the tactics the Senjaya supporters did on American Idol ...only this isn't a stupid music competition!! Paul suppoters are flooding the comment sections, online polls, blogs sites, etc to make it look like there is more support for Ron Paul than there actually is...I can sort of see the 5th grade logic behind such a tactic, but honestly it is in no way going to be effective. (you can only vote once not 50k times)..It may get some people to check out Ron Paul and it may cause a few people to jump on the Ron Paul bandwagon, but it's just going to annoy the other 90%...
I could never support Ron Paul for his stances on certain issues, but I'd have a lot more respect for the man if he'd speak out against such pathetic tactics in his name...

Tristan, I found your comments on Ron Paul interesting. He may well be all those things. But I wouldn't worry about him. He's not a main stream Republican candidate. Someone who changes parties because the political wind changes is troublesome to hard core party members. American's likes someone who sticks with his or her party no matter what. If the GOP is going to back a dark horse I would think Sarah Palin would be their choice since she got closer to the White House than Paul did. Or it's going to be someone who has yet to come to the forefront. Like you pointed out, most of Paul's supporters are either angry republicans who hate President Obama and his policies or they are the lunatic fringe. There are many things that Ron Paul stands for that would keep me from ever voting for him. I would like to see a candidate who is nether too far right or left and someone who will have the guts to defend this country and understands that this country is made up of many religions and beliefs. I don't see Ron Paul fitting that image with me as a leader. It's still early to see who will be running in 2012 for the GOP. It would a good guess Obama will run for a second term. Whoever throws their hat into the ring, I just hope it's someone I can support with my vote no matter what party they belong. Just file Ron Paul away in with the other fringe darlings like Ralph Nader and Jerry Brown. I hope you stick around, it is refreshing to have someone who has as much passion as others here.

Editor's Note
A post in The Medium blog that appeared on Monday about the Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul and his purported adoption by white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups contained several errors. Stormfront, which describes itself as a “white nationalist” Internet community, did not give money to Ron Paul’s presidential campaign; according to Jesse Benton, a spokesman for Paul’s campaign, it was Don Black, the founder of Stormfront, who donated $500 to Paul. The original post also repeated a string of assertions by Bill White, the commander of the American National Socialist Workers Party, including the allegation that Paul meets regularly “with members of the Stormfront set, American Renaissance, the Institute for Historic Review and others” at a restaurant in Arlington, Va. Paul never attended these dinners, according to Benton, who also says that Paul has never knowingly met Bill White. Norman Singleton, a congressional aide in Paul’s office, says that he met Bill White at a dinner gathering of conservatives several years ago, after which Singleton expressed his indignation at the views espoused by White to the organizer of the dinner. The original post should not have been published with these unverified assertions and without any response from Paul.

Who Is Obama Playing Ball With?
Submitted by Chip on Thu, 2009-08-27 07:28.
By Amy Goodman | Truthdig
It looked like it was business as usual for President Barack Obama on the first day of his Martha’s Vineyard vacation, as he spent five hours golfing with Robert Wolf, president of UBS Investment Bank and chairman and CEO of UBS Group Americas. Wolf, an early financial backer of Obama’s presidential campaign, raised $250,000 for him back in 2006, and in February was appointed by the president to the White House’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board. Economic recovery for whom?
Interestingly, Wolf’s appointment came in the same month that UBS agreed to pay the U.S. $780 million to settle civil and criminal charges related to helping people in the U.S. avoid taxes. Not to worry. UBS, an ailing bank with a pre-existing condition, had great insurance coverage. It was actually receiving $2.5 billion in a backdoor bailout from bailed-out insurance giant AIG. Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, said, “It looks like we’re simply laundering this money through AIG.” UBS, this bank that shelters wealthy tax dodgers, was actually being bailed out by hardworking U.S. taxpayers.
UBS, which once stood for Union Bank of Switzerland, was founded more than a century ago. Its success hinges on Switzerland’s famous banking secrecy laws, allowing people to squirrel money away in untraceable “numbered accounts.” Secret Swiss bank accounts have become a favorite way for wealthy people in the U.S. to dodge taxes. According to the U.S. Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, in a July 2008 report, “From at least 2000 to 2007, UBS made a concerted effort to open accounts in Switzerland for wealthy U.S. clients, employing practices that could facilitate, and have resulted in, tax evasion by U.S. clients.”

The FDIC just spent the last of its money
Sunday, August 16th, 2009
Mish - As of Friday August 14, 2009, FDIC is Bankrupt. Mish puts a harsh spin on it, but he’s right that the FDIC’s funds were more or less depleted with Friday’s takeover of five banks. One of the institutions, Colonial, was the biggest bank to fail in 2009. The FDIC has now closed 77 banks in 2009.
Congress already approved $100 billion in additional FDIC money, so the FDIC can go right ahead closing banks next Friday. However, the depletion of FDIC’s existing funds does signal the seriousness of this country’s banking problems and the lack of seriousness in the FDIC’s preparations. Recall that in September, 2008 the FDIC was admonishing people that they were well-funded and would not need any taxpayer money:
Let me be clear: The insurance fund is in a strong financial position to weather a significant upsurge in bank failures. The FDIC has all the tools and resources necessary to meet our commitment to insured depositors, which we view as sacred. I do not foresee – as Mr. Evans suggests – that taxpayers may have to foot the bill for a “bailout.”
Now the FDIC’s “strong financial position” is wiped out and taxpayers will in fact have to “foot the bill” to rescue depositor’s money at other failed banks. That’s in no small part because the FDIC collected almost no deposit insurance between 1996 and 2006. Other big potential bank failures on the horizon include Corus, Guaranty Financial, and Regions and there is a long list of problem banks.
Here’s the iTulip.com prediction for the banking sector:
We estimate banks will continue to fail through the end of 2011, that more than 1,000 will fail, representing a total asset loss of $890B, based on RBS estimates, information from contacts at the FDIC, and our own calculations.
A thousand failed banks would mean 900 more failed banks between now and the end of 2011. At first I found that number unbelievable, but I’m starting to think it’s in the realm of possibility. The FDIC is now assuming the deposits of five to seven banks per week, which would be a rate of 250-350 per year. Calculated Risk recalls the Savings and Loan era of the early 90s, noting that the pace of closings accelerated as time went on, reaching a peak of more than 500 per year.
LATER: The quote above was from FRED’s summary of an iTulip.com article released today: August 2009 FIRE Economy Depression update – Part II: Snowball in Hell. The final version expands the timeframe to 2012, which makes it more likely. Follow that link for an excellent treatment of the deflation vs. inflation debate. iTulip’s verdict is the same as it has been for years - a little deflation now followed by lots and lots of inflation.

Is racism the real reason Ron Paul and his supporters are against President Obama and his work to rebuild this country? It seems to look that way. Is this someone you want in government? I sure don't. What would we lose if Ron Paul had his way? I hate to think. I don't how long my posts will stay, I'm sure his supporters are working at removing them. But freedom will find it's way. Be alert people.

Is Ron Paul besides being an anti-Semite, but a racist and homophobe as well? Here's a link, check it your self in Ron's own words. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/5/15/124912/740 More proof that a leopard can't change it's spots no matter how they try. Don't let history repeat itself.
