Hi Jared,
Did you find the girl?, Is she ok? I was watching the news and I did not see or hear any comment about it. I hope she is ok. I will pray for her and her family.

Thank you Eric for reporting this story. It is sad when people can just take advantage of gifts intended for those in need.
The last shall be first and the first shall be last.

Eric -
Great job exposing those who take advantage of something that was intended to help others. However, I think the saddest commentary was towards the end of your report when the spokesman felt there was no problem with their system. Denial doesn't solve a problem.
A better solution might be for Butterball, Aramark, or whoever offer up a better solution for the distribution of the tickets. Possibly visiting centers such as a Salvation Army, a church, or a low-income housing complex to name a few. In other words, take it directly to the people in need. For the businesses this might even turn into a good P.R. move for any company with good intentions and for those seeking assistance it would be a welcomed gesture of kindness.
Just a thought...

That one idiota, Felix Hernandez, told the reporter that the turkey was for his daughter, then he said it was for his parents... He kept changing his story. If he can afford a car like the one he was driving, my guess is that he can buy a turkey for a relative in need. Or he could just invite that relative to his house for Thanksgiving! Somebody should track down those people and post their names and photos somewhere for everyone to see.

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME! This is BS! Did these City Officials give these tickets away to their employees to make-up for their lost unpaid day? There is a lot of people who REALLY need the food. These people don't even have a car to make it to the Convention Center, they have to take a bus that's if they have bus funds. Butter Ball should have gone into the low income cities, barrios, hoods there is so many disadvantaged families out there. My 60 year old mother lives on her $881.00 per month income. With this she pays her rent, groceries and utilities. Not to mention she never buys new clothes. Her clothes come from the Goodwill store. My siblings and I of course buy her stuff here and there, but she has too much pride to take from really needy families.
These people line up for a free turkey in there SUV's, Benz SHAME ON YOU!
I ask you ERIC please find out how these City Officials distribute these tickets. I would love to nominate a couple of organizations who can really distribute free food to REALLY NEEDY families.

I guess it just shows that some people have no shame. It doesn't surprise me. I know there are a lot of of people out there who do not think of just themselves and have donated to food banks so those in real need are able to have a Happy Thanksgiving. Thanks Eric for showing this.

This disgusts me as well but doesn't surprise me. I've seen many people in "need" who have things that many of us who save and prepare for hard times consider luxury items like Ipods, X-Boxes, PS3's, cell phones, digital cameras, etc. I have a hard time feeling bad for many who do without essentials like food in their cupboards because they choose to go to fast food or those who don't pay utility bills but choose to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day. I guess what I'm trying to say is that many of the "needy" are looking for short cuts or handouts so that they can continue doing what they want without giving up things that they don't need.

I agree about the man (physically speaking only) in the SUV - his "daughter" got the voucher but the turkey is for his "parent(s)"?
He doesn't appear to be doing without the better things in life; why couldn't he give up a tank of gas and buy his "parent(s)" all they need for Thanksgiving or take them out!
Have you asked the people and groups (City Council, Mayor, a labor group) how they determined who got these vouchers? They should also be ashamed of how some of those vouchers were put to use.
Thank you for blogging about this.

That's disgusting. I hope those people are ashamed of themselves and donate more than the cost of those turkeys to a local food bank.

You know, this is really disgusting. As a former reporter myself, I have seen a lot of things, but this is one of the worst.
How dare you take something meant for people in need that cannot afford to buy food. I'm sure that many will see this and be so disgusted that they will not give to food banks. I really hope that does not happen.
Isn't there a maximum income limit to receive a turkey?
By the way, all of LA knows what you drive. Don't be surprised if you see a lot of obscene gestures directed at you. You deserve it.
Sometimes, I swear I have no hope for the human race.

You know, we always find people that do that. Right now I can't afford to buy a turkey, but we will have any way a Thanksgiving dinner, without it but with less expensive stuff. My kids and my Husband and me will be doing something and bring them all together. The meaning of this day is that, give thanks to God and everyone in our life because we are healthy, we are alive, we are together, and because we help each other in the worst times and we will be together in the good times.
Happy Thanksgivin day to everyone.

Wow is the only word I can say. The man in the SUV clearly did not NEED that turkey. My family is not exactly well off, but I would never even think of taking a free turkey..there is always someone that will need more than my family. How selfish can people be? This kind of story just upsets me to no end. Thank you Eric for reporting this.
