"Too much body, not enough mud" -- Sam's somewhat sexy spa vacation

Solage
Calistoga, California
My wife and I are celebrating our anniversary; (I know it is an anniversary because she presented me a card with the touching phrase; 'I love you...so deal with it'), and given the state of the economy; you know that freebie gift certificate for a stay in Calistoga that was in a Swag-bag more than a year ago....well I kept it; and here we are.
As part of the promotional package, we have been give the couples "mudslide" treatment. First we are each allowed to select a particular mud that is designed to detoxify us; then we take these small jugs of mud into a really neat and private treatment room; and place the mud all over one another.
I am well aware that no one has, nor should have, any interest in particularly intimate secrets of mine; but suffice to say this whole mud thing is done completely in the nude. As my wife was making her application on my backside and beyond; she was unable to complete the coverage task.
"Too much body, not enough mud," was her analysis of this particular problem.
Later, we went to phase three of this process; which involved reclining in individual zero gravity chairs while we listened to bizarre music and felt the vibrations of the music through the chairs. Oddly enough, I found this especially relaxing and was about to doze off, when my wife somewhat interrupted the flow of the process by announcing; "When was the last time we went to the Bombay Cafe on Pico? We never go out for Indian food."
We will continue to cleanse and hydrate and enjoy our time together.

PLM, first of all, hope you enjoyed a wonderful Mother's Day.
TEACHERS. Regarding your comment about burned out teachers. You are right - if instructors no longer relate to the job or the kids it's time to find a new job. Thank goodness the Obama administration is assessing under-performing schools and tired teachers. A revamp of the system is overdue but how are they going to overhaul the system while keeping teachers who are still enthusiastic and innovative? A real balancing act.
A few years ago I attended a teaching credential seminar. The room was filled with eager candidates excited about the possibility of a new career. They listened intently to the presentation, then asked insightful and thoughtful questions. I wondered about the schools that would embrace their enthusiasm, and how the educational system would support and nurture their talent. Now I wonder how many may have changed their minds or were burnt out during their inaugural years because of our atrocious educational system and poor leadership. What employee puts up with mixed signals like . . . *Today you received a pink slip. But don't pay attention to it. It doesn't mean you'll be laid off. It's just a precaution in case the taxpayers vote against sending money to the district. Darn, the bill passed but we still don't have money to pay you. You will be laid off afterall. Our bad. But wait, we're getting stimulus money. We don't know when it will be distributed so remain in lay off mode. Sorry, no lay offs until we know something for sure next week . . . * and the beat goes on.
Teachers are real people with real lives and real commitments. No wonder tenured teachers wear out putting up with years of yo-yo management. Who puts up with such uncertainty and keeps their sanity? So I ask the Obama administration . . . once you've reorganized our schools be sure the leadership inspires, nurtures, encourages, supports our teachers so they don't burn out. Let's not repeat this cycle.

Yep Jozie Lee I agree funny how they find money when they want it isn't it? Yes they lay off teachers, take away programs that help communities and families.
Yet the governator's buddies stay on the payroll. While penalties for living keep increasing for residents of the state of California We can't water our grass..we have to pay more money to register our cars..pay more sales tax. But strangely there is money for emergency services for the fires.
My heart goes out to those losing homes. I do hope there is help for them..but our teachers need to keep their jobs too. Yes there a few teachers who could stand to leave but those are usually the ones that have worked so long that they don't enjoy the challenge of grooming young minds any longer they are older, cantankerous and tired. And some of these older teachers should be the ones to go. But guess what? Those aren't the ones that lose their jobs.
The ones that are losing their jobs because of state budget problems are the fresh energetic..innovative teachers who are not jaded -tired or just plain mad each and every time that they walk into a classroom like some of the older ones are. These fresh and truly caring new teachers are the ones that losing their jobs.. the old ones that should stay -the newer ones are the same ones that are getting the pink slip.
Guess what folks that is just plain wrong. Teachers job security should not be based on seniority. It should be based on job performance...and many of the ones that are safe after the layoffs are the very same teachers that should be let go. but they will be in school again next ..not caring and cranky not giving their all to teaching our kids..but the young fresh vibrant raring to go teachers will be walking the pavement looking for a job in another field and wishing they didn't' love the thought of helping young minds because all it got them was unemployment.. what's wrong with this picture???
Gotta say..that is just wrong! Many Good teachers lose their jobs while many bad -time to retire teachers keep doing a poor job and remain a teacher as the good young teachers decide they majored in the wrong course of study and sadly we lose teachers that could have been great but never got a chance to. But there are still government cronies driving expensive cars and collecting checks while teachers are told they can not return to their classrooms next year. Just wrong.

Arnold Schwarzenegger tours the Jesusita fire site in Santa Barbara today and declares the area a disaster. He vows to immediately funnel money to help those devastated by loss of property and personal affects. That's great but . . . isn't the state broke? Where's he gonna get the money? He's proposed taxing marijuana to make money for the state, and I'm sure he can apply to Washington for relief funds. But it always tickles me that the very people who announce furloughs for state employee, teacher layoffs, program cutbacks always find money where none formerly existed.

Being still alive has nothing to do with if Pot is a gateway drug.. NOt everyone who has used marijuana and then has gone on the use other drugs like meth of cocaine have died. SO this really isn't a valid judge as if Marijuana is NOT a gateway drug..
Are you using Marijuana, as a perscribed drug?
Do you use any other drugs that are perscribed?
Do you use any other drugs for recreational purposes?
IF you do, did you start using Marijuana, before you used any other drug recreationally?

PAUL: So you look like Ed Asner? Mr. Grant!?! Checked out UP vid clips at IMDB. Lots of fun ahead. Here's a link to the featurettes:
http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1934361369
PLM: Jacob is only 2. His mommy thinks he's too young for the movies. We're trying to find a theater that caters to moms and toddlers. No luck yet. In the meantime, we're promoting creative outings. Today we took him to the Kidspace Children's Museum in Pasadena. Certain days of the month admission are free. Like today. http://www.kidspacemuseum.org/site/PageServer?pagename=visit
MOVIES: All the movies you've listed sound like fun. Can't wait. As you know I'm the rental queen. Animated films? You betcha, even when I have no children at home. The evolution of animation is fascinating and when Jacob is old enough to appreciate the stories we'll hunker down with JUNGLE BOOK and BULLWINKLE, THE MOOSE. Right now Jacob's drawn to the Baby Einstein series.

WITCH MOUNTAIN: Yesterday I looked for Dwayne Johnson's latest movie. It's already in limited release. Soon to be DVD'd. Guess I'll wait.
NETFLIX: Tomorrow we're getting QUANTUM of SOLACE (Daniel Craig) and TRANSPORTER 3 (Jason Statham). YEAH!

Jozie in regard to the many animated movies we both get to enjoy...do you take the grand kids to see these...or are you such a fan that would go even if you didn't have young ones to take?
I enjoy "some" of them when I take my kids but not all of them are worth the admission price. i remember a couple of years all 4 of us, went to see a movie about a dog (pet) that talked.. it was not Disney was terrible so bad i can't even remember the name. I personally did not like the latest tim burton Coraline either..
I plan to take the kids to see The battle for Terra (Lionsgate) this weekend. This looks interesting. Great animation. This is the first movie that I can remember where the aliens were the good guys and the humans were the bad guys? I expecting a surprise ending. So if anyone knows the ending don’t tell me!
Upcoming new movies for 2009 I am looking looking forward to are:
Of course Up (Disney) opens May 29
Ponyo Disney Hayao Miyazaki’s latest animated film August 14 my daughter loves this directors films.
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (Sony Pictures Animation) Sept 18.
this is one my kids and mine favorite bedtime stories..this should be interesting to see done on the big screen.
Toy Story 3-D (Disney/Pixar) October 2
We loved all the toy story films can't wait until the new i do hope the main character voices are the same as before Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear.
Astro Boy (not Disney) October 23my kids should like this one it’s a popular graphic novel that they read
Disney's A Christmas Carol (Disney) November 6 sounds fun
Planet 51 (Ilion Animation/Sony) November 20. This one’s for you and I Jozie. It’s got Dwayne Johnson ..but egads he’s gonna be animated..I do hope they can capture those “guns” properly!
The Princess and the Frog (Disney) December 25 they must be expecting big things from this one opening Christmas day.
Whew!!! This should keep us animated movie goers pretty busy for the rest of the year ..huh?

I, too, am looking forward to UP. Should be fun.
Jason Stratham's new film is CRANK 2. We saw him first in TRANSPORTER 2. Loved the action and his character so I rented SNATCH, which also stars Brad Pitt. FUNNY stuff. So I decided to rent Stratham's catalog. He's really great if you enjoy action flix like TERMINATOR - lots of kick a$$ fighting sans blood, car chases, implied sexual tension. Stratham's fantastic.
Dwayne Johnson "The Rock" can be assured that when I watch Stratham, I'm only interested in whether he uses his British accent or not. LOL

You can always rent the earlier X-Men movies without the higher cost of the movie houses. You can then get a better feel of the films.. And as to if the new film might be suitable for your 11 yr old son..
Just a thought..

Jared... great idea in concept.. but really I don't want to spend the ticket price TWICE to see a movie I haven't liked enough to see once in all it's earlier versions.
Yes love taking my son to a movie great one on one time with him, we eat and discuss the movie in detail afterwards always fun. But at the current ticket prices ...would rather take him to see a movie I know is safe.
He wants to see "Up" ... oh the joys of motherhood and the endless supply of animated films. LOL I never thought I would ever see so many as I have over the course of my kids childhood.
Jozie,
Who is Jason Stratham? Am I missing a new sensation? Sounds like you have another favorite ... what on earth will Dwayne ..or as I like to call him.."The Rock" think?

Hey Jared (what's with the Loon nonsense? ) You are a man with an opinion. That's all. I see nothing wrong with that.
Don't let others bother you. There will always be someone who wants to put someone else down.
For the record ... Some of the things you post give us all serious cause to reflect.. and that's all you're hoping for right?
It is hard to convince anyone to believe differently than they already
believe. So don't sweat it Jared. You have a right to your opinion just like everyone else here.
Thanks for the tip on Xmen. I have always liked Hugh Jackman in his movies but I must admit I haven't seen any of the X-men movies. Guess I'm missing out huh?
Maybe I will take my son to see it. Is it safe for an 11 year old to watch or is it too gory?
