"Allie MacKay is the dirtiest guy I know" and other secrets from the staff party.
8:41 PM June 4, 2009
I am not supposed to write this kind of thing; which is precisely why I do. I think it is the stuff, that often viewers are most interested in.
Believe me, if David Ono took notes during the KABC staff party, I'd want to hear all about it. Today, very much on the QT...in 'celebration' of some very impressive ratings during the just concluded May sweeps...the KTLA sales staff treated the KTLA on-air team to Beer and Burgers downtown at the ESPN Zone at L.A. Live.
I was the first to arrive. Well, actually the first in the private room set aside for our get together. Allie and Megan and Michaela were downstairs; I am not saying they were at the bar; but I don't think they were studying the lunch menu.
Parties always have a certain flow; and all of a sudden the lunch went from a snooze, to really something of a happening. Our hardworking sales team; these are the men and women who really pound the pavement to in effect enable KTLA to cover the news and to pay of all of us; are, as I imagine many sales types are....party people. So it should have come to no surprise when the sales people started to hand out ESPN Zone arcade cards. This wasn't going to just be a meal and a pat on the back. Tons of Air Hockey, Basketball shoot machines, mini-bowling, and pseudo motor-cycling riding was ahead.
While in the process of fueling up to prepare for a tough Air Hockey challenge from Michaela; I was sitting with Allie, Frank, Megan, Mark, Asha, and a few of the sales folks. Mark, always being health conscious refused to let Megan eat her hamburger with both sides of the bun. I, of course, went back for seconds; and then we all started to talk and speculate about the dating life of one of our colleagues.
NOT what you're thinking.
This is one of fellas on the staff; and as we postulated if he was serious about this person, or just playing the field. Allie, butter wouldn't melt in her mouth, MacKay, made a particular observation.
I can't repeat it here. Sad to say.
Frank, almost spit out his french fries. Megan just rolled her eyes....having known Allie the longest, I am sure she was used to this kind of language. I thought what Allie said was super funny, and super shocking. Earlier in an after-show meeting; Allie said something else I can't print here; and at that point I said, "Allie MacKay is the dirtiest guy I know."
After she made latest remark, Allie said, "Sam when you said I was the dirtiest person you know....it was the funniest thing I have ever heard."
Well it may be funny, but it also happens to be true.
And, it is actually a really good quality.

I can do without a vulgar women like Allie in the morning. There can be humor without the filth in the morning. Gary Bryan on KRTH does it everyday. The morning news is not a locker room or a bar, two places where someone like Allie is better suited for. And she's not even a good field reporter to boot.

I just read some of these comments about Allie. I for one think she is great. I love watching her when she is on. She always makes me laugh. We all need that every day, a good laugh to get us going in the morning. You can't please everyone, Allie, so just keep being yourself. I have been watching KTLA since the beginning. I did like Barbara Beck alot she was a great lady. Sam, i just wish you would stop using your hands for every jester you make. Ladies, you are all beautiful in your own way. Keep up the good work. Just keep us laughing. There is enough sadness in this world. Thanks to all of you on KTLA I enjoy watching you. God Bless

Barbara left in May of 2001 in an apparent dispute with producers and station management. And I agree, she had style and class that is so lacking with someone like Allie. Just this morning she was making sexual comments over food at a restaurant. Is that something we need at 5:30 in the morning?

It is interesting to see how many viewers do not like the style that Allie portrays. there is a place for her but I don't think it is on the news chanel. What ever happened to the likes of Barbara Beck? Now that was style and she could also be funny with out being vulgar. Where is Mark off to ? He has been absent so often is he on the way out?

Bully for you. I been a viewer since the late 1960s, and even before that when KTLA showed wrestling and roller durby with the great Dick Lane.

Just want to tell you all at KTLA you are the best and don't listen to people who have no sense in having a life. I've been a true fan of you all since 1992 and i'm still here. Just keep on rocking our mornings you are all the BEST.
WE LOVE YOU ALL KTLA MORNING NEWS CREW XOXO

Yes, and he's never been back. If one is not using foul language in their comments, KTLA should be big enough to stand up to some criticism. But it looks like they can't. Remember the "grow a set" comment that got the then producer of the 9:00 hour panties in a bunch on the air? Ah, good times. LOL

PAUL: "my comments still get pulled"
Didn't realize posts were routinely pulled. Remember when Bill had his posts pulled . . . one of mine was pulled and I don't criticize management. Can't remember the topic but I guess my comment didn't sit well with the reader. Oh, well, small price to pay for "freedom of speech." LOL
So, you gonna see TRANSFORMERS? Mixed reviews. Surprising.

I've done that, and my comments still get pulled. It may have to do with saying they should replace the current management with a bunch of simians. But hey, I call 'em like I see 'em. LOL

I know I have had my comments removed from time to time. So much for free speech. For news, I have switched to KCAL in the afternoon. They fit my criteria for news and news reporters. I find it interesting that a number of people who were at KTLA are now at KCBS/KCAL. I only watch KTLA at 4:30 am before I have to leave.

Ktla's News division's bar has lowered so far it is no longer a news program at all. It is just entertainment. And it fits in with the rest of the days programing. (Jerry Springer and so on)I have heard mis informed and uneducated trash come out of everyones mouth there including Frank and Erick. Opinion mixed with facts mixed with incorrect information mixed with lots of unattractive women (including ALLIE) talking about what they do not have (SEX).
Listen I've really given up on effecting a change (through this blog) there as they pander to the populace and look around you ear what people say and think. I just want to be happy. And ya know sometimes Allie does just that .... makes me smile so WTF.
PS I think I've been censored from frank and Erick as I can not post there any more. I wonder why??? but I can here

Good question Frosty, I would have to say Hal Fishmen was the standard. He set the bar for newsmen in this city. There are a few here in Los Angeles that keep that standard high, at KTLA it's Eric, Frank, Emmett and Jaime.

Hello Paul,
I have one question for you. If Sharon Tay is the standard you judge all female news reporters here. And I would say you have very good taste.
Who is your standard for male news reporters here? That is if you have one.
Posted by: Frosty | 06/17/2009 at 04:46 PM
Forrest,
Just so you know, Sharon Tay is the standard to which I judge all female news reporters in this town. She is class with a capital C. KTLA had her and lost her, to be replaced with the likes of Michalea and Allie. Instead of raising the bar, KTLA has lower it IMO.

Again, Forrest I have to disagree with you. I find NOTHING attractive or smart about her. A women who acts like a guy in a locker room is not appealing.

I will be sending a letter to Sam Zeal's office to complain about her and other things at his station stating that I will file a compant with the FCC about her unless something is done. Maybe a huge fine on KTLA will get results.
And kiddo, I don't hold having a Facebook page as something to brag about. It's garbage. And I have no use for that type of "junk technology." After more than a year, It's time to take the gloves off.

PAUL: "You want to see professional female field reporters, watch CBS/KCAL."
You're comparing apples with oranges. Morning news is designed to inform people getting ready for work about the Traffic and Weather. If they offer a little bit of entertainment all the better to start the day off with a laugh. To paint a reporter as classless because you don't enjoy her brand of humor is just your opinion. Allie's still working and she rocks a very popular Facebook page so she's apparently doing something right.
To me only one other local morning news show competes with KTLA, and I don't watch them. The few times I've tuned in two of the anchors seemed poised for a cat fight. Too much tension. That's not how I want to start my day. KCAL has never been an option. I don't think I've ever watched them.

So what you are saying is 74,000 of those who voted only did because of Howard? Howard still has a draw of those who either love him or hate him. No Howard, no ratings. And to compare Allie to Howard is ridicules. It's expected for Howard to dirty. He's Howard and he's a man and he's made a career of being outrageous. Allie is none of those. You want to see professional female field reporters, watch CBS/KCAL. You would never find someone like Allie on that station because the people in charge are "old school" in the way they present the news. And their ratings are higher than KTLA in the same time slots. Just as Lettermen's ratings have gone up over that "edgier" Conan O'Brian. When it comes to news, it's always class over trash.

PAUL: "Hal Fishman must be spinning in his grave with what they have done with his beloved KTLA."
If, as you say, Hal is spinning, he's responding to increased ratings. Even Hal, like any other broadcaster, was a slave to ratings. Have you taken a look at the KTLA Polls? Usually KTLA gets 1,000 or fewer responses to their daily poll question. The day of Mark Kriski's feud with Howard Stern . . . over 75,000 people voted. And every other word Howard uttered was *beeped*. I'd say that's what edgier broadcasting is doing for KTLA.

No, I do not have to move with the times. I don't believe that for one minute that Hal would endorse a foul mouth and unprofessional reporter like Allie. Frat girls don't belong doing the news . . . period. Hal Fishman must be spinning in his grave with what they have done with his beloved KTLA.
