T-storms and more

7:27 AM  August 26, 2010

Thre's a chance of more thunderstorms and lightning strikes today in the High Deserts, similar to what we had yesterday.  It was pretty bad in Forest Falls, Big Bear Lake, Rosamond, California City, and Lancaster.  Prepare for the commute to be affected if the weather gets bad again.

Protest in Century City

7:06 AM  August 26, 2010

LAPD is expecting to close some streets in Century City due to a protest that gets underway at noon.  Cops say streets will close at 11:45, but to be safe, expect them to start the closure closer to 11:30.  This could last as long as 6 tonight.  Streets closed include: Constellation, Ave of the Stars, and Century Park E.  Drivers can try Olympic, Beverly Glen, Santa Monica Blvd, or Pico Blvd.  Our reporter Eric Spillman is live in Century City with details on the protest.

Sunset Strip Music Festival

7:03 AM  August 26, 2010

The event starts today and continues until Saturday.  But streets will only be closed on Sat.  Well, the barricades will go up sometime late Fri but Sat is the real concern.  Nevertheless, Sunset Blvd will be closed between Doheny and San Vicente Blvd.  Santa Monica Blvd will be impacted by this event.

The CHP family

8:26 AM  June 11, 2010
This has been an extremely rough week for people who serve this state, the California Highway Patrol.  My heart was so heavy that I had to blog about this.  This morning (Friday) a CHP officer out of San Bernardino was killed after a pursuit at the intersection of San Bernardino Ave and Alabama St. in Redlands.  Earlier this week, an officer in the West LA area (Palms/Culver City) pulled a driver over to the right shoulder.  Another driver, for some reason, was driving on the shoulder and crashed into the officer and the car that was pulled over to the shoulder.  The CHP motorcycle officer is still in the hospital in serious condition.  Again, this has been an extremely difficult week for the CHP.  Let's be patient with officers and with each other so that we can avoid any further tragedies.  Thank you.

Sigalert on the 5 through Norwalk

5:21 AM  June 3, 2010

All lanes blocked on the 5 S at Pioneer Blvd due to a fatal crash.  Traffic will soon be diverted onto the 605, as of 5:16, drivers are using the right shoulder.  Once more Caltrans crews get on the scene, they will not allow drivers to use the shoulder and they'll have to take the 605.  The alternates:

1. 5 S

exit Paramount Blvd or Lakewood Blvd, go N

to Telegraph, there go E

to Norwalk Blvd S and that will take you back to the 5

2. 5 S, 710S, to the 91E back to the 5 in Buena Park.  Don't take the 105 from the 710, it will end at the 605 and you'll still run into traffic

3.  Florence, Firestone to the S and Telegraph Rd to the N will also help

4. If you've been diverted onto the 605 and you need to get back to the 5 S:

605S

exit Firestone, go E to Antonio and take that N.  Antonio turns into Norwalk Blvd by the Walmart and you can get back onto the 5 there.

Good luck, I'm here for you!

Streets in Santa Monica

5:30 AM  May 18, 2010

Streets in Santa Monica have been shut down after a shooting involving  Santa Monica police officer.  Two suspects were just caught but the streets are still closed.  Some of the streets include:

Lincoln, 11th, 9th, Ocean, Michigan, and Pico at Lincoln.

It will be tight in the area but we're hoping that because the suspects have been caught that the roads will re-open soon.  Until they do, here are a few ways around the closed streets:

14th instead of Lincoln, 9th, or 11th.

Main instead of Ocean

Olympic or Ocean Park instead of Pico
